Does anyone know if the 228 comes with the same mirror caps. I thought I saw a picture of one with white caps. If that is the case might be able to order any color from BNW. I am sure it would probably cost more

Will not come from BMW painted, you would have to paint yourself. Contact Andrew at IND they will sell you the caps already painted.

i got a few guys expressed interest but not enough volume to procure a huge discount from the manufacturer. at present level i would estimate US$120 plus shipping for a pair of full replacement type (i.e. not stick on type).

i received mine today from mainland China. The manufacturer claims that the outer layer is real carbon fiber, and the rest of the case is obviously plastic, see photos. The CF surface looks quite impressive to my naked untrained eyes.

what i want to know is whether the much more expensive genuine M Performance part is of the same construct or entirely made of carbon fiber?

People interested in group purchase please PM me and suggest mutually acceptable payment and shipment logistics. Thanks

The oem is Real CF...i have a set
I know is expensive but I have ebay/aftermarket on my e90 and you just cant compare to oem fitment and quality.

If the backside of the product is not also CF...its Fake CF

Dont get me wrong, aftermarket can be good stuff too

For a mirror cap, I personally don't need full carbon fiber. It isn't structural, nor does it weigh anything significant. It does, however, need to fit well.

I read on one BMW selling site the OEM's are real carbon fiber covers glue on top of a plastic back for installation purposes. If this is true, then the OEM and aftermarkets could be made the same way. Only the quality of the CF cap is the question.

On the interior trims...yes it has to be glued on to the trim. The quality of the CF is night and day compare to aftermarket. On the F cars (non M) the CF has no resin and clearcoat. It leaves the CF weave and you can feel the texture by hand (on pics it doesnt show cuz it doesnt capture it)...let me tell you the non clearcoat CF is the best I've seen.

How bad is the M Perf logo in person? I feel like it would annoy me.

Also have to consider how fast that small layer of CF is going to yellow over time and will need to be replaced. If OEM lasts 2x as long, it's worth the price.

For the folks that don't know... CF yellows over time from UV rays and has to be replaced. I learned this the hard way with a hood on my e46 that yellowed in 11 months and the manufacturer refused to replace it because "yellowing of CF over time is common knowledge and I should have known it was going to yellow".
