M235i CLICKING NOISE

Has anyone experienced a noise when turning under load. It sounds almost like I'm dragging sticks along the road, it's defo a revolution noise. I've had the car into my local dealer (Elms Cambridge) 3 times for separate investigations to no avail. New callipers, new disks, some kind of pin in the callipers. They also carried out a fix that meant removing all the headlining?? The last visit it had almost 19 hours work and still I have the problem. Help!!

You may need something like this (below) or at least ask if service department has one.
That's if you don't get an answer on a forum.

Looks like this is a common problem after searching the thread. I've passed the info to the dealer. I'll update on the progress. many thanks

I definitely hear clicking noises very intermittently as well. Sometimes it sounds like something is hitting the undercarriage. Would be interested in getting more info on this.

I had this issue as well but it went away after 2000 miles. I haven't heard it since. It even happened when I was driving at low speeds and let off the throttle.

Happened to me too lol, I have read that it could be the brakes. But not certain.

Both myself and another 135 owner that I autox with have the exact same noise. I'm assuming it's nothing to worry about. I just had all 4 rotor replaced due to pulsating so we'll see if the noise is gone this weekend since I have an autox on Saturday.

I've been hearing a clicking sound during hard cornering as well (ESC on or off). It sounds like a rock is stuck in a tire.

Had the same thing on our Mini Countryman, and it turned out to be a cracked brake caliper.

Turns out that my wheels weren't torqued down enough. The spec for the 2 series is between 103-105 ft/lbs. All four wheels must have been set too low the last time I was in for service (or they worked themselves loose). Now the only sound I can hear going around corners too fast is tire squeal

Wow, how did you figure out that was the cause?

Reading a thread over on 1addicts, there were more than a few people that had the same clicking sound go away after new wheels/tires were put on.

Originally I was planning on pulling the front wheel off to check for nails and inspect the the brake rotor/dust shield but that didn't happen because I need a low-profile jack. A bit off topic but how the h*ll are we supposed to lift the car and use a jack stand? The whole under side of the car is covered with plastic and the lower control arm bushings don't look beefy enough to put a jack stand under.

I doubt it, the lugs weren't that loose. This is a guess but I bet the lugs were set around 80ish ft/lbs. They only needed 1/8 to a 1/4 turn.

If the wheel would have really been flopping around I'd be worried.

In my case dealer replaced both front wheel bearings, and clicking stopped since.

I too was plagued with this problem. Went to the dealership two times and there was no fix.

However... I found the fix...

1. Buy a torque wrench
2. Set that bad boy to 105 ft-lb
3. Torque your wheels
4. SHAAAZAMMM noise is gone.

Frustration over.
You're all welcome xD

Just went to the dealership today. My service rep knew of the problem before I even finished explaining so it is a pretty common problem for the m235i. He said it was related to the suspension and would be a 2 day fix so I gotta bring it back to get a loaner car.

Wow, what with the suspension could possibly take them more than a few hours to fix? Not only that, has anyone here heard about a common M235 suspension issue? This seems to be new news.

I should have clarified.. the 2 days is due to parts they did not have, not because it takes that long to fix and he was trying to avoid having me go back and forth.

My car is in the shop for the clicking noise issue, showed them the SIB, did test drive heard the noise. They have no idea what is going on, since my car is Canadian, mechanics are not sure if American service bulletin still applies. Will update later on details.
