I live in the Calgary area (Alberta, Canada). With all the rocks and debris on the roads, we replace windshields every year. My 228 is one year old with 24,000km and due for a windshield (2 cracks and many chips). The windshield on my 128 was $250 and our X5 was $400. I expect the 228 will be under $300. I will replace the windshield once the roads are cleaned.

I ended up going with SafeLight. Very easy...they came to my work and took about 90 min to execute the swap. Did a very professional job and cost about $450. Time will tell but so far it looks like a fine job (no leaks, all the cameras/sensors seem to work fine, etc.)

Fortunately, windshield glass is automatically covered in SC if you carry comprehensive and collision insurance.
Zero $ deductible. It's one of the extremely few things SC got right... |

Update: I would advise against using Safelite. I know some people use them with no issues. But in my opinion, it's a real crap shoot and really depends on the technician they send. Not worth the risk.
For my first appointment, they failed to show up or call to explain. For my second appointment, the tech showed up without all the appropriate parts for the install. For the third appointment, another tech showed up, but had to run back to the office for one of the parts. Came back and did the install but the workmanship is very poor. The windshield trim isn't aligned correctly and there's extra adhesive left on the outside. He scratched the windshield cowling and he also scratched up the interior A pillars (both sides). Now I have to wait until Thursday to see how they rectify the situation. Pretty pissed. |

But don't you run that risk no matter who you choose? You should definitely share your experience with their corporate office as they have a reputation to protect. They should offer you compensation for your time that they have wasted (in addition to paying for the damage), and after verifying your experience if they don't, I would ask for it. There's no excuse.

That's true. I've made the corporate office aware of the issues. I have an appointment with the local shop manager on Thursday. Hopefully they take care of everything. I'm not sure what kind of compensation they would offer, since it's being paid for through my insurance. It's been a real pain, though.

my windshield got a rock chip last week. Over the weekend the chip turned in to a crack that spanned from one side of the window to 3/4s of the way to the otherside. dealer will be replacing it this week. said parts alone will be 1100 (includes glass, sensors, gaskets, etc.). luckily insurance taking care of it with me covering the deductible.
