Forgot to order alarm!
I forgot to order alarm system with my new M235i . I ordered my car last week (3/25/15) and its still in 'pre-production' but I called my sales man and he said it's too late to add the alarm... but I feel like he's just being lazy and doesn't wanna do the work to change it for me. Am I wrong?
now that I have to get an aftermarket alarm I feel like it defeats the purpose of getting the 'premium' package, I cant just pull the handle to open the door, now I'll have to deactivate the alarm and then open the car... also since it's 'too late' what's the best aftermarket alarm system for the car. granted I don't wanna pay a bunch of money. |

When you hear a car alarm go off do you rush to the sound of it to make sure it's not being stolen?
Nobody does. If you have the Tech package, the car will be tracked by BMW Assist, that's all you need. Alarms are so... 90s.

This. You don't really need the alarm; I think most people just buy the alarm for their 'piece of mind' when they hear it beeping when locked/unlocked.

My car was not ordered and it has the alarm which I didn't want. Complete waste of money of you ask me! Be happy you forgot to order it and spend the savings on something more useful

I'm sometimes forced to park in an area where there's frequent car break-ins, so if the alarm provides some miniscule amount of deterrence, all the better.
I mainly ordered it for the BEEP, though. |

As my local police say, an alarm just give the burglar one more thing to steal. It doesn't do anything to protect your car.

Does the car beep or honk without the alarm? My 328 and M3 have the option in the iDrive, I've turned everything off though, even the option to flash the blinkers on lock and unlock because I think it makes it more classy to unlock the car without it beeping and flashing like a honda.

The blinking red light could deter a thief. I remember reading testimony of a car thief. He said the light might make him look elsewhere, but only if he sees it from far away. Once he walks up to the car, seeing a light at that point is not going to stop him. Figures he's already made the effort to get the car, so he's taking it.

My previous car had an alarm; this one does not. I actually feel like this one WOULD have a better chance at being found if it were stolen with all of the GPS/BMW assist it has. My Honda? It would have been long gone, alarm and all. I thought I would miss the alarm. I truthfully do not. The lights blink when it locks, and that is dandy.

+1 with everyone else, the alarm is pointless. And since you are using comfort access, there is also no point in having the car beep when locking/unlocking since you'll be standing right next to it.

Alarm is useless and I just make a "beeep booop" sound with my mouth when I press the remote. Makes criminals think twice about the car and the crazy guy driving it. Ha ha

An alarm will just scare them away. Still going to break your glass out first. Don't keep anything valuable in plain site and it won't matter. That's why 95% of breakins happen.
Had a buddy get his car broken into in broad daylight (no alarm). They took his lunch box which was laying on the seat. Didn't bother to look in the center console for the $700 GPS or glove compartment for $200 oakleys. |
