HELP: What do i do to my m235i

Name: Screen Shot 2016-12-01 at 9.50.23 AM.png
Views: 3686
Size: 1.48 MBHello, I have a 2015 m235i wrapped matte black and black interior +30% tint all around. M performance duel slit grill.

I am interested in making my car louder without changing the whole exhaust system. I have been looking into muffler delete or resonator delete or straight pipes. I know that altering some things will cause my car to read wrong and send the "check engine light". Any recommendations on how to get my car to be louder without throwing the "check engine light".

I also am trying to stay cheap and not void warranty

mods and cheap don't go together...

The cheapest way to make the car louder is a catless downpipe, but that will cause a CEL. By-itself with a CEL bypass module, or a JB4 tune added into the mix. You also need to realize if your state has emissions inspections , you need to swap it back to OEM cat to pass.

The proper HJS race cat downpipes will set you 1000+. Fabspeed muffler bypass is ~900, if you have a muffler shop near you, ask them about a muffler bypass and it should be < $300 according to members.

A resonator delete has been done by a few members on there own, it's just a piece of pipe and some clamps, muffler shop could perform the same task for short $. Other companies like Dinan have pre-made res deletes for $250 or so.

Good luck. Search the forum for these items and you will find stuff.

A muffler delete like Fabspeed won't cause a check engine light. Modifying your OEM system can potentially void warranty.

So you're only option is to get a plug and play set up like fabspeed.

There are 3 ways to mod a car, cheap fast and reliable. Pick 2

Never heard of anyone getting in trouble with warranty when modifiyin catback or axle back.

Lots of options available, what kind of sound are you looking for?
If you are just interested in louder, Fabspeed muffler delete is the best way to go ... If you want a deep aggressive tone, i suggest you check out REMUS systems

If you want a great sound without worrying about any CEL issues, I definitely recommend our Muffler Bypass Exhaust with the Resonator Bypass Midpipe. This is a full catback system with 3 different styles of tips to choose from. No need to worry about a CEL as well. Just bolt her up and have some fun! Check your PMs and the video below!

How about a Fabspeed catted downpipe. Sound + more noticeable power = win. Then later on you can decide how much louder you'd like to go. If just a bit louder then couple the dp with the M performance exhaust. Want louder than that? Couple it with a cat-back like Fabspeed or AWE. Want to raise the dead? Couple it with a muffler delete.

If you go muffler delete first and find that to be too loud (or just loud enough) you've barred yourself from a dp. Trust me, you'll end up with a dp. We basically all do.

I stayed away from a muffler delete due to fear of drone. There's a thread here somewhere where someone added a resonance chamber to their muffler delete setup that supposedly took care of the drone. Don't remember the name of the thread, but I believe the post I mentioned is like on page 3 or 4 of the thread. Can't miss it. The chamber is a J-shaped pipe attached to the exhaust tubing.

Problem with that mentality is if you don't like it you just hacked up your stock exhaust.

At least with a bought set up, you can go back to stock if you don't like it or just want to change it up to something else.

Plus they hold their value pretty well so you get a good portion of your money back.

I agree, I'd go downpipe first if there are plans for that anyway. Downpipe opens up a good amount of sound & power while keeping it reasonable at idle and highway cruising.

I am in the same place as you, i have a dinan stage 2 tune and intake. the intake alone adds great turbo noise. now i am leaning towards the fabspeed cat DP, and some sort of exhaust, but i heard the muffler delete adds some drone, and perhaps the MPE or the dinan exhaust is what i should do.

Muffler delete would add drone. If you want to avoid drone consider a more conservative exhaust like MPE , Dinan or similar. Fabspeed CAT is a great downpipe and excellent quality, highly recommend.

Fabspeed cat mated to their valvetronic exhaust.
