This is the best part of this article (see below). Just own it and be up front with what the consumers are getting. Why do companies (gov) have to hide things? Thinking they are saving society from something. Also give an option to turn ASD off so when you get an aftermarket muffler you hear that muffler and not the fake sound in the car anymore.
From article: Not everyone is so diplomatic. Karl Brauer, a senior analyst with Kelley Blue Book, says automakers should stop the lies and get real with drivers. “If you’re going to do that stuff, do that stuff. Own it. Tell customers: If you want a V-8 rumble, you’ve gotta buy a V-8 that costs more, gets worse gas mileage and hurts the Earth,” Brauer said. “You’re fabricating the car’s sexiness. You’re fabricating performance elements of the car that don’t actually exist. That just feels deceptive to me.”

I coded the M4 ASD on my F32 428i. Part of me hates it because I know its fake but part of me loves it.

Did anyone with stock audio system (no hifi/no hk) get their asd coded to the m4 sound?
Seems like it`s just working with the hifi system.

Yes this works on a 2015. I first turned the active sound off but the car was so quite even in sport mode. The car felt noticable slower with out the accompaning engine sounds. Its been below freezing in Chicago so driving with the windows down is not an option. I tried out the S55 active sound and found the turbo whistle to be more natural sounding so i kept it. When i change the exhuasting I'll probably turn it off again.

Has anyone coded the n55 ASD in a 228/N20?
I'm wondering if one reason car manufactures are doing it is because sound deadening is better than it has ever been in cars. Cabins are so quiet they would need to make the engine/exhaust louder to where it would be annoying to outsiders/against regulation?. Can you have both without ASD? (engine noise With a super quiet cabin Without a loud car from outside) |

I think this would be just a load of fun and if I had a Scooby Doo clue on how to do it I would love to make my 135i sound even better inside the cabin. I would do this as its all about the driver experience and this would add to that for some people. If I could I would even go as far as making my acceleration sound like KITT from Knight Rider
If anyone wishes to give me a dummy's guide, please feel free |

Hi guys
Here are some videos of my retrofitted ASD in action. First half of first video, comfort mode, barely noticeable (the way I want it). 2nd half of first video, sport mode, more noticeable. Second video I messed around with F80 M4 settings. Way too aggressive and noticeable, especially on my aftermarket amp & speakers. What also sucks about the M4 setting is that the volume is constant on Eco-Pro,Comfort and Sport. Probably because M4 has different way of adjusting driving modes. |

Thinking of getting an aftermarket exhaust...
What are people's thoughts in regards to ASD? turn it off or leave it?
