Having recently owned another model from that brand, it's may be another questionable quality vehicle from a company who poorly supports customers and doesn't consistently stand behind their warranties.. #Audineveragain

I've had several Audis that I liked, and one that I didn't like, but they were all long ago. I would have seriously considered them when I got the m240i, but I hate the local dealer with a passion formerly only reserved for cars that look like wonder bread.

I've been looking at the RS3, nicely optioned out is essentially the same price as an M2, has a faster 0-60 time, four doors, nice tech, it looks compelling. I need to drive one.

The RS3 is fast stock and, with just a stage 1 tune, ran a 10.55 1/4 mile. The S3 is closer competition for us, stock and tuned.

Hank, at Iroz, has his RS3 almost into the 9s. I love Audi 5 cylinder motors.

test drove one
had high hopes for it as my next car
bad turbo lag, video game display, lack of engine noise in the cabin dashed those hopes

enjoyed rhe m240i much more...hence my order

A lot of discussion over on the M2 side if you haven't seen it already

I'm looking for a new car shortly and I'm putting this on the list to test drive. Few negatives for me right off the bat is that it's FWD based. Also the dynamic package (or whatever they are calling it) adds wider tires to the FRONT. 255 front and 235 rear. That tells me the car probably understeers. We'll see how I like it when I drive it over the next month or so. Who knows, might be surprised. I liked the s3 when I drove it a few years back, but I just liked the M235i more so.

Really?

The new Audis are proving to be very reliable and, outside of the early B8 A4s, there are no huge issues to watch out for. My A4 had 135,000 miles, with half of that being tuned, and it never failed to start and ran as smooth when i sold it as it did when I bought it. The only garage, besides my own, that ever did work on it was a transmission shop for a clutch upgrade (not counting tires and alignments).

My 1995 S6 has 275,000 miles and the motor runs great.

New Audis reliable? In less than two years and 17,000 miles, a 2016 model year $62,000 A6 Prestige:
  • Keyless entry door handles fail intermittently
  • Climate control settings are intermittent
  • Menu choices for audio system don't function consistently
  • Radio volume turns itself off despite setting
  • Transmission upshifting is jerky/lunging, typical per SA, with others also complaining
  • Warped brake rotors, widely known and discussed on Audi forum, and Audi refused warranty and had tech lie on repair order. Hundreds of dollars from our pocket.
  • Adaptive cruise control brakes so severly when someone enters ahead that had a few near miss rear impacts.

In process of selling the car, and Audi never again.

I drove the old one - not the new one. That said around town the car has a ton of character. If you're going to the track M2 all day but for DD duties especially if you're someplace with winter weather, the RS3 is a very compelling option.

I agree. I have a 2012 S4 with 111k miles. Outside of regular maintenance I paid to get a left front wheel bearing replaced. That's it. Never had a problem with mine. It doesn't handle particularly well but it's never given me any issues.

You are a charitable soul to assume it's "one".
Dealer says trans complaint is common since the 2016 freshening.
The deception in the warranty process is the culture of the company, as we also came to know with diesels, although ours is gasoline.

Isn't the trans in the A6 a ZF8 like BMW uses? I know a lot of Audi drivers and haven't heard many complaints at all.

Many car companies are getting found out for cheating the diesel emissions. Although it was wrong, VAG wasn't alone.

I loved my 2010 Audi and so far love the BMW. We also have a Merc SUV that is great at 120k

BMW owners questioning Audi vehicles on quality. Interesting.

Here is a thought, they are both a gamble, buy the one you like and pray that it's reliable.

I was going to buy one, but it took so damn long to actually come out that I ended up getting the 240 instead. I do believe that ours will also be a 10 second car when it's flashed, but then it really should be already with a turbo swap and meth...

It's a real shame that audi are such dicks over their warranty if the car throws a TD1, because all their MQB cars are so much better with just a simple ecu tune

EDIT - how is it possible that new audis get flashed so quickly? Are they not being utter shitbags like BMW and not massively encrypting their ECUs?

They are encrypting them. The B9 S4 hasn't been cracked yet. The Audi tuning market is mostly ecu tunes and very few piggy backs, so there are a lot of companies digging in to them

According to Consumer Reports, Audi is in top 3 or 4 in reliability, just above BMW. When I did some of my research on S4s, I haven't heard of any issues besides some shit with DSG
I used to have B7 A4 and that car had zero issues for first 20-30k miles, my buddy also has B7 A4 with 185k miles and no major issues

The track record is very clear for us. 2 BMW (2015 and 2018)and 1 Mini Countryman (2018) on the BMW UKL platform with BMW powertrain, all delivered with no issues and one BMW developed one rattle. That's it. Compare to the Audi list I posted above.

As to the trans, it may or may not be the same trans, but the behaviors couldn't be more different, which may be the vehicle adaptation by the individual manufacturer/engineering team. For fuel economy, Audi appears to want to stuff several upshifts into the acceleration before reaching 30mph, and they are not well executed. The trans in the Mini Countryman and the 3 Series are seamless and slick...beautiful automatics. The Audi is a surging mess, and the techs who drove it confirmed the problem but said for the 2016+ A6, there is no fix.

Some with older Audis may have had better outcomes, but our 2016 A6 is a basketcase, and given the lack of support from Audi, I can see no reason to ever consider that brand again. Based on quality alone, I'd take another BMW without reservations.
