i have a ‘m235i xdrive DCT with 90k miles that recently is showing much worse mpg (before 32/23, now 20/15). There are no fault codes present based on both the dealer and bimmerlink diagnostics. i’ve ran a can of 44k, changed the spark plugs and had the dealer perform fuel injector service whatever that is (i probably wasted my money). I think the worse mpg is due to bad o2 sensors but wouldn’t that throw a code or trip a engine light? It is performing fine, except for the lower mpg. Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

My 2015 235 has averaged a bit over 19 mpg over its lifetime of mostly suburban driving. That number has remained quite constant throughout. AFAIK, there is nothing wrong with it. For what it's worth, our 2016 X3 with the 4-cylinder has averaged about 22 over its lifetime, with a bit more highway driving.

I’m such a fan of the B58, it really feels like the perfect all rounder.

If I run it hard I get between 16 and 20

Around town I get between 28 and 32

On the motorway to work and back I average 41 on eco

Could do a lot worse really!

My M240i's MPGs at 19,949 miles:

These are the result generally of highway miles, followed by backroads and then some in-town driving (mostly to get out of town! )

I have seen 34mpg (6.7l/100km) in my M240i manual. All highway.
I think that's pretty good. My daughter's B38 mini does low 5l/100km, manual as well.

fuel economy better with auto

I have a 2018 230i with MT, and just rear wheel drive. I get ~25 mpg when driving in urban traffic with stop light, etc. I measured close to 32 on interstate @ a constant 70-75 mph.

My wife has a 2021 330i with automatic transmission and 4 wheel drive, and it gets better mileage than my 230i. On interstate at the same 70-75 mph, we measured 34.5 mpg. I think it's primarily to the lower RPM's for the same speed with the auto transmission.

Returning from a road trip, I got 36.3 mpg on the final, 245-mile leg. I was driving the speed limit on highways with limits of 55-65 mph.

After 23.6K, I'm at 28.9 mpg since new.

Kicking around town mostly with country roads. Less than 1/4 highway. My "global" avg is around 9.7L/100km or 24mpg. Which isn't great but slightly better than my previous N52 powered E90. City driving and winter driving don't do well for fuel economy... neither does the occasional redline

I think the kombi stats like mpg and certain other settings can reset on battery power loss, like the clock. So it may not be since new.

I'm assuming you're all stock to be hitting high 20s.

I get 20.0 average MPG on the dot with 50/50 city and highway driving. Might be closer to 27 if 100% highway only and on Eco but I've yet to drive that much. Might be heavy on the gas for a quick 1-2 sec. max to pass someone but no other hard driving.

TU HPFP, MHD stage 2 on 91 octane map, xHP stage 3. MPG drops even lower as expected when sometimes mixing 91 with just 2 gallons of E85.

Have you calibrated the 'miles' portion of MPG?

On my car the speedo (and by implication the odo) reads about 5% faster than GPS calculation. That's handy for avoiding tickets if you forget that you know this, but it also overstates the mileage driven.

Dinantronics Elite V2 & Dinan CAI = ~11.5% performance improvement

Mostly highway at 68 - 80 mph and backroads at 35 - 55 mph. I rarely get on it and enjoy turns and corners the most.

I haven't calibrated my car's odometer reading. Are you doing so by using a GPS and comparing its readings to your car's speedo or some other data?

I use a standalone GPS when I'm in the car and use it to tell me how fast the car is going. I once noticed that it reads, IIRC, ~1-2 mph lower than the car's speedo.

I don't remember if my car has a digital speed reading. I think it's only an old-style needle going around some sort of dial. I almost never look at it and rely upon the standalone GPS for the car's actual speed.

Just driving on plain flat highways is not a credit to what is really the normal driving and furthermore at 55 MPH. I am more incline to believe those who say normal driving is about 25 MPG.

Mine is up to date with all maintenance, new tires with at always the right pressure and my environment is mountain highways. From new, my average is about 26 MPG. I am at 50K.

You misunderstood; that drive was not exclusively on "plain flat highways", and I reserve the right to drive at the posted speed limit anytime I choose.

FBO + tune, I think I get 27ish on the highway near 80mph. Manual.
