Well my rattle chase came to an end with rather easy solution, dealer ordered some updated glovebox rubber bump stops and that was it. Took a month for that small part to arrive from Germany directly

My convertible 240i is totally rattle free ... really impressed. Only 1K miles but for a convertible (3 x Z4's) I have got used to at least one or two where the body flexes ...nowt so far with this so pleased.

Just noticed the drivers side door making a rattle / buzz. Sounds like its coming from the rear section (closer to the B pillar). Trying to troubleshoot it now...sounds like it might be the window? Anyone else with a similar issue?

45k kms, MY2015 (late '14 build) and completely rattle free. I keep little to nothing in the car, which I feel plays a big factor with noises. I also use small micro fiber cloths to line any plastic area where I might be storing things. Yea, a bit OCD, but hey..

My convertible has an occasional chirp over big bumps. It seems to come from the rear driver's side deck. I'm thinking it's the folding seat back flexing/rubbing.

No rattles other than the flashlight in my glove box. However the driver's door doesn't close quite as it should with the top up and the trunk has popped open twice. No doubt the boys back at Suburban will sort that right out.

No rattles or buzzes here yet. 5k miles. I would knock on wood, but there isn't any in my car :-)

I'm glad to hear that rattles are mostly atypical in the 2 series. Unfortunately, my 2015 228i (43.5k miles) has way too many interior rattles:
- squeaky center arm rest - steering column cover - driver's side ceiling area - the face plate around the stereo controls - etc. You get my point. I guess it was just bad luck. I'm just about at the point where I'm going to trade it in (my conscience will not allow me to sell this car rattles and all lol), for something new. At this point I've narrowed down to a 2018 M240i 6MT or a 2018 A4 6MT. My hope is that if I get another 2 series, I will have better luck this time. I just love this car and there's not much else out there (within budget) that grabs my interest.

I have all of those + rear deck lid, around the Drivers side B pillar, maybe interior rear panel, and passenger door rattles.

How did you conclude that? It seemed like there was a preponderance of rattle-free responses in this thread, although I didn’t count them.
I wonder if newer-year cars are less prone to rattling, owing to improvements in build quality? |

Yeah that was my impression from everyone's responses too. My hope is that by now, BMW's worked out the kinks in materials. As it is, I noticed different materials in a 2016 loaner I drove several months ago and that car didn't rattle one bit.

But there have been a few very consistent occurances of rattles, and owners ive talked to offline as well. Might depend quite a bit on your road conditions, but generally speaking if you have several examples of cars rattling in the exact same spots, chances are, they are prone to it.

Too many variable exist to draw generalized conclusions about the incidence of rattles developing. Tire, wheel, and suspension specs will vary greatly in NVH values between the various OEM and modified setups and settings, as will coupe vs. cabrio roof, etc.
Still, I’m glad my car was assembled before Oktoberfest started! Last edited by stevenvillatoro; 10-05-2017 at 11:50 PM.. |
