I have a rattle in my exhaust on cold rev down that I think must be in the valve. It goes away once it warms up and opens. I think I read someone else saying similar but must not be this thread. I may just unplug it, but has anyone heard of issues here?

Yes, my car has the same exhaust rattle on cold startup. It happens about 30% of the time. I asked the dealer about it, his reply was that they all do it. I've read in another thread that the only fix is to replace the exhaust since the valve is inside the pipe, if that is true then no wonder BMW wants nothing to do with fixing this issue. It's pretty embarrassing when you start your new shiny BMW and it sounds like a 20 year old beater.

I just discovered that the rattle I thought was coming from inside the dash is actually just the cover around the steering wheel column. That discovery was a big relief, I can fix that easily.

No I don't know how to fix it and yes that latch mechanism rattle drives me crazy. It's such a bad design and I'm going to have it fixed next visit. If they detail the solution I will post. Going in on the 17th.

Same here. Engine was noisy for almost a month and the Everglide EGS solved the issues. First time that I've used a moly-graphene based oil additive and I'm pretty impressed. Have decided to try it first before getting my car checked.

So they fixed it. The service report read: "secured trim on glovebox causing rattle" It's like night and day...car is pretty much rattle free now.

15k miles. No rattle. Almost pulled the trigger on a S550. Potential for rattles kept me from it. Very happy with the 235.

Rattling from the horizontal panel between the rear seats and the rear window.
Sounds like two license plates or other thin metal sheets clattering against each other.
Only on medium/large bumps. 2017 M2.

In case I wasn't clear a major source of rattling is not the glove box itself but the wood trim and the accent trim pieces above the glovebox. It's amazing how loud they can rattle when the temperature changes. I need to take it back in to fix it. It's probably the worst rattle in the car so far.

So best advice I can give you guys, and this is how ive had mine taken care of. If you have a passenger with you, just record the rattles with your phone or camera etc.

I have had 2 or 3 that popped up over time. There is 1 persistent one that they just cant seem to fix. Rattle in passenger door panel, and also sounds like the glove box latch rattles a bit over bumps.

I could've sworn it was the latch on the glovebox but it's actually the silver trim piece and the wood or whatever trim you have that's the rattle cause. Press on the trim and it will stop rattling. Not sure how they can fix this. I had one in my passenger door too but thankfully they were able to fix it.

I had a horrible rattle going over certain pavement grades/bumps..not even bad bumps, just certain kinds of bumps made this really metallic clanging. Turned out to be the child seat secure mounts were banging around. They added some padding and the rattle went away.

Oh I know what this is. It's the child latch mechanism for installing a child safety seat. There are some metal hooks to attach to that bang around. Your dealer can fix this easily.

I have some minor rattle coming somewhere from passenger side, suspecting the right side of sun roof, but possibly in the door as well. Will try to report it next time I go for service.

Just the usual "snap crackle and pops", especially in extreme weather changes (i.e. 100° weather and blasting the AC causes the dash and vents to make a lot of adjusting / cracking sounds). Also changing lanes on the highway and hitting the reflectors on the road makes the middle of the dash sound like it's going to break in half (ha). Chalking it up to LA freeways just being garbage roads.

But I've learned to just live with it. I also noticed a lot of these noises when driving the 320 and 328 loaners when my car was in the shop.

I found that my interior really 'throws' the noise - so it sounds like it is coming from someplace very different from actual origin. So far I've been lucky and w/o any major rattles, but I spent a frustrating 3 days chasing an under-dash rattle that turned out to be from my garage opener (on the visor). Having a second set of ears, or riding shotgun can help, and systematically removing things or holding them down to figure out what stops it. And as far as I can tell, ANYTHING that you put in that left dash hideyhole will sound like a box of rocks, no matter how you try to keep it solid.

I find that little cubby is a great place to keep a microfiber towel,
to occasionally wipe down the instrument lens, iDrive screen and the piano black around the HVAC controls that always seems to get finger-printy.

Which cover? Asking because my steering wheel/column has been making a ratcheting noise. Been to dealer 3 times to fix and it's still there.
