Best Tune?

I'm picking up my M235i this sunday and was wondering if I wanted to tune, what tuning company should I go with? I do not want to JB4 my car, I was thinking a ESS Tune with catless downpipes and intake. Would that be a good setup? Also I'm in California so if you guys know any good mod shops I can go to and talk about tuning that would be great. Thanks guys

every one is going to have a different option. do your research and make a choice that makes you comfortable. theirs DME flash and a bunch of piggyback set ups like ess, bms stage 1 and AFE. there is no best tune thats why everyone's set up here is different. alot of pple like enzo for DME flashes. i have a JB4 and love it.

As Mike said it depends on what is important to you as to which is the best for your particular needs. In Glendale there is a shop by the name of Avus Autosport that I would recommend checking out as its a very impressive little shop although I am unaware of what other lines they carry outside of Dinan. If you are willing to travel a bit there are a ton of options in the area though like EAS in Anaheim, Mod Bargains in La Hambra and Eurocode in Torrance to name a few off the top of my head.

I agree there are many options, depends what your priorities are. I do however strongly urge you to stay away from Dinan, don't waste your money, been there, done that. Friends don't let friends buy Dinan.

While I recommend an ecu flash, reputable piggybacks include jb4, racechip and manhart.

Good luck and enjoy the new car!

May I ask why? I was thinking about picking it up from a dealership, want to know your take on it.

I have the same view as Luminous . Gains were nowhere near stated...also ZERO adjustment flexibility. Much more value for your money elsewhere...

You can find some Baselines I had done

Thanks for your reply. What other options would be in the price range with better gains? I really don't feel like sending my ECU to Enzo as I am in California.
Thanks
Edit: Sorry for the thread jack.

If you are looking for a flash tune, lots of options are available in CA

For the same price range you can go almost FBO if you go with the Piggyback option

I have a Dinan Stage 2 and Dinan CAI. I love my set-up and there's a warranty for piece of mind.

Have Dinan stage 2 with a catted downpipe. Car pulls like mad now. If you're skeptical about Dinan, best to try it out and see for yourself. Had a BMS stage 1 before Dinan stage 1 and definetjy felt a difference between the two, in terms of power delivery and smoothness... Although some have said it feels smooth because it doenst make as much power.

Until you go to the dealership to warranty a broken part like cryptocar did and get a big fat warranty denied from the "Dinan" certified dealer.

You can search his name and read up his posts. He's still fighting to get his $900 refund.

That whole Dinan warranty thing should be treated as skating on very thin ice.

You'll get dealerships as I mentioned above that don't give a shit about any aftermarket "certified" tuner, and you'll get dealers like mine that know I have a jb4 and don't give a shit. Dinan is bullshit and a rip off.

Then the Dinan "certified" dealership has the nerve to charge $300-$400 to install that shit on your car, and it's literally 2 plugs that piggy into your DME instead of the sensors like the rest of the piggy backs. I'd even argue a JB4 is harder to install and people do that on their own for free.

Peace of mind lol get an MPPK and that's about your only option. Or leave the car stock.

Any other tune is a gamble including DINAN.

^^ this

I actually dynoed the stage 1 Dinan and the gains were about half what was advertised. I contacted Dinan support and got zero assistance from them, instead they blamed it on my car. Lastly the Dinan caused a check engine light for me, again I brought it to the dealer and they denied it was related to the Dinan. Once I removed the box it never came back... Don't waste your money on them!

If you're going for max power your best bet is ecu flash or jb4, possibly both. And yes you will need downpipe, chargepipes and fmic.

I would go with JB4 or ECU flash for most power.

JB4 would be the best choice because you can change maps on the fly in less than 5 seconds. You also have a custom map where you can select how aggressive you would like to go and enter your own boost targets.

For most power, get a tune + downpipes + intercooler + intake + charge pipe.

I installed the aFe Scorcher on my GF's new M235i along with a Sprint Booster. Granted she does not need max performance, but since I drive the car a lot, I added it for my own entertainment. I have to say, the car is much faster and more responsive than stock, and I actually enjoy driving it just as much as my tuned F80 M3. Such a great little car...and the aFe Scorcher is a great value. Almost wished I had just used than on my M3 instead of the costly Turner Piggy Back.

I'd go with a JB4 if you are looking to make the most power.

It's the most adaptable and interactive tune as far as adding bolt on's as you go.

Does the JB4 require all those other components such as downpipe, chargepipe, etc? What is the difference in gains with and without all those additional components?
