If it doesn't weigh something like M3 CSL E46, then fail.

Levi, you've been around the forums long enough, so you aren't completely stupid. You tell me HOW!

You obviously know that the CSL was only 240 lbs lighter than a regular E46 M3, which in turn is lighter than M235i to begin with? So if you are so smart, you tell me how they lose all that weight without making the car cost more than the M3/4.

I agree, the only way BMW could get the weight down that much would be to manufacture the M2 like the i3.

Wanting it to be the weight of the m3 CSL is absoultely obsurd.

I think if you want to think about how much it'll weigh its easier in the us to think of it as a base 228 with a bigger engine and dct and big brakes

228i base does have manual seats, no moonroof, and weighs 230lbs less than an m235. That said I think it'll be maybe just a few lbs lighter than a m235i. If its under 3450 ish I'd call it a win(m235i 8zf = 3535 and the dct weighs more)

Reading up on the other threads, I don't see much if any weight reduction compared to M235i. Its not confirmed but without a carbon roof and the price point at which this car is expected to fall under I don't see how weight could be reduced significantly. It could even weigh a tad more. Oh no.

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love to see CF roof, and I got it on my e92 of course. But it's really not THAT much lighter than a regular roof without a sunroof.

10 lbs here and there starts to add up. But besides a CF roof (which is minimal as you stated) where else can weight be reduced?

Honestly, not THAT much. Not saying that 10 or so LBS at the top if not that important, but I know I won't be able to feel that.

Unfortunately for us, we're starting off with an M235i that weighs 3500 lbs. That was always going to be a tough mission.

For me personally, I plan to skip as many options as possible in the hopes that it starts at 3400 lbs. If cloth seats aren't available, I'll eventually go to Recaros or something of that kind because we all know how heavy BMW seats are. Definitely a lighter exhaust because BMW has a penchant for making lead weights back there. Don't think we'll be seeing much in terms of weight with the rims as BMW seems to have really improved in that department with the M3/4 (although still not wide enough).

I think with what I listed, a car in the 33xx might be possible? All speculation of course.

Rupes, same here. You can feel the extra weight too. I have driven the 228 also side by side and it feels nimbler though both are too soft for my taste. What really bums me out though is that so any gripe about weight but 95% of cars are ordered BLoaded! Even the 1M there are 29 for sale and 25 are bLOADED. They ask for carbon parts to save 10lbs but add 120 lbs between auto trans and all the other fluff. The biggest weight savings will come not from BMW but the guy checking the options sheet except for M235 which did not let you order it without all the fluff.

Really wish this car could be a lightweight beater, but I don't know. Cars just aren't that anymore, they are mobile nanny states unfortunately.
As long as its lighter than the e82 135i I would be happy, or similar weight at least.

Maybe BMW will offer the CCB package for true enthusiasts? That is a good 40lb savings but not sure how the car would act with 19"s. I am waiting on a confirmation about the carbon roof.

I'd be really surprised if we get CCBs on the M2 to be honest. I just think that the market will be too small for that kind of option, even if this car will most likely see more track time than an M4.
