Thanks for the picture. I am also having problems taking the cup holder out. I tried prying at the points you are showing, but I had to stop because I felt I was getting close to braking it.

I plan to paint it in situ, after I cover the rest of the area.

Just finished replacing mine, and found a very simple method to undo the hinges. Insert flathead screwdriver into the slot and twist/rotate it so the screwdriver is causing the main body to flex inward away from the hinge. It literally just pops up and out when you do that.
