Darn I wish I had ordered PDC.
Kind of expensive but I feel stupid "saving" $800 on a $58,000 car.
Wonder if they'd retrofit it. Probably only cost 3x as much tho ... |

Do you have the backup camera? My car is a 16? so PDC came as part of the Driver?s Assistance Package with the backup camera. Otherwise, if it were A La Carte I would have passed. My fronts are always going off because of my tow hook bracket so I tend to ignore them on go based on what I can see. Don?t beat yourself up over it.

But on the other hand, its a fairly small car so its easy to park, and front parking sensors rarely beep at smaller curbs so not much your missing out. |

yeah. has rear view cam, which is very nice w/ tiny convertible window. my bugaboo, for some reason, is scraping nose-in curbs at the front. apparently i am stupid.
i liked the feature in the one i tested, certainly can live w/o it. silly to save a few bucks tho. |

My philosphy is to check all the boxes and have no regrets. I have also scraped a few front bumpers over the years with these low sport BMWs. My answer now is just stay miles away from any front curb. Even with sensors (which I have), there is risk of hitting them.

FYI, I have the PDC and it won't pick up a standard parking curb. Basically anything 6" or shorter won't be picked up.
These cars are so short that there's no need to pull fully forward in a space. I'm usually 1 to 1.5 feet from the curb. |

This. Had PDC on my F30 and still scraped the sh*t out the front bumper on a curb stop. My suggestion as above is as soon as you can see the curb stop you are close enough. Don?t try to pull closer our cars are short so you won?t be sticking out.

I pull up until I get the steady beep. If it’s a lower curb,I never get the steady beep. It just stops beeping. I can safely go over the lower curbs. I like PDC. On my other car,I checked every box. Why not? You only live once.

I could find the PDC useful when parking in my garage as one tends to want to get the car in as far as possible and in some cases will bump into something in front of the car. I park mine in my garage. I have put down a yellow "bump strip" so when I pull in, I can feel the car's front tries contact the strip, and I know I'm perfectly situated. I bought 4 of these that extend across my garage floor for both our cars. https://www.amazon.com/Rage-Powerspo...B23AKP4C2RKCMJ As an aside, when I back out of my garage, the PDC goes off for the front and side and usually scares the hell out of me. |

How do those affix to the floor? They’d need to be secure (immovable) while still not damaging any special floor finish.

They are not affixed. Just laid them on the floor and when I roll up and the tires contact them, they don't budge. They have such a slight incline, the tires do not push them at all.

I wouldn't have ordered it, but I ended up with it. I don't mind it, seems to be most helpful when parking up toward a concrete parking block. The MP chin spoiler sticks out a fair bit and I find the sensor helps for quick and easy parking.
Otherwise, I can see the day where I code the shit out because it starts tripping when the car is 10+ years old. My $.02

I had PDC on my 135i, before backup cameras were standard. It completely eliminated the need for a camera in tight spots, and I absolutely would order it again as it now integrates with a visual 3D display on the backup camera. Especially worth it if you park in tight spaces regularly.

Overall I am glad I got it on my 240i, but if it makes you feel better, it is far from perfect. The beeping is extremely distracting, especially since it kicks in when the car is not particularly close to the object that the car is warning you about. For example, when you are parallel parking, if you follow the beeping and the yellow warning signals, you will end up way too far from the curb, and so you have to learn to compensate for the over-sensitivity. It is still easy to end up too far from the curb or, as I did once, to scrape a
rim (fortunately I am replacing them anyway). Occasionally I just turn the thing off and park without it. I wondered if it was just me and my ancient reflexes. Then I was in my building's garage watching one of the attendants back it into a space that was not that narrow. He started fine, but then he began pulling to the left and then to the right, resembling a fishing lure gliding through the water. Obviously he was spooked by the system. I had to laugh. |

I was lucky as my M235 came with them. I use them all the time, especially the front ones. True they don't pick up a low curb once your close to it but I experimented and checked how far away I was when the obstruction map disappeared. It's about a foot so now I know "only drive up until the display disappears!" No ah Sh*ts.
