Original Owner?
I was not sure what part of the forum to post this in. I just bought a 2016 M235i from a dealer in Ohio and I'm trying to find either/both of the original owners (if they are part of the forum).
Its alpine white had about 21k miles on it, 6sp manual, HK, camera, lane departure. Lots of M performance stuff, Carbon fiber interior, incl shifter and e-brake and exhaust. The dealer I got it from said the guy traded it on a 4dr golf. If you think this was your car, please get a hold of me at fourply21@gmail.com Thanks. Charlie |

The dealer probably won’t tell you who sold them the car, for privacy reasons. But they might be willing to call or email the previous owner, introducing you and asking them to get in touch.

I think the DMV will give out this info, sad to say. I've known people with old cars that were able to track original owners via old title documents - not sure exactly who you get them from, or if it is a state-specific thing (I think in both NY and OH).

I'd try the dealership first. I bought a 1 year old Corvette back in the day and asked the dealership for the previous owners contact info. They gave it to me without issue (naturally I explained I wanted to ask about service records and such). This was before the days when everything was computerized. You could justify your need by saying you wanted to know more about the modifications the previous owner did to the car as you wanted to add to them (or whatever).
We aren't talking HIPAA info or signed non-disclosure agreements where there are federal privacy laws in place. There are a number of ways to get the info, but the quickest would be to visit the selling dealership and ask. More than likely they took the car in trade and sold a new one to the previous owner (unless the bought the car at auction) |
