Figured this was the right section to ask this. I currently have my lease up for transfer and had an interesting statement from a potential assumer.

They mentioned that in New York, you are only allowed a maximum security deposit of up to $750. Therefore, they would need to return the vehicle to a dealer outside of NY in order to recover the full security deposit amount.

I wanted to ask if there was any validity to this? If so, is this applicable to other states, and does the remaining deposit simply get forfeited? I have never heard of this and didn't find any information on this. Also, it's the internet, so it screams scam to me.
