Some More M235i vs the Competition

Numbers are from motortrend.com first test drives. I think it is interesting to show it against the competition, and it shows how good all around the car is based on price/performance/luxury/features.

Also.. for those that complain about weight.. it doesn't weigh much more then the 135i they tested. Take these figures with a grain of salt because as we know, temp, time of year, etc all factor into it. But at least this is all from the same source, so they should have standard practices.

Made a typo: 135i figure 8 is 25.2 sec @ 0.76 g (avg)

Great post, I really can't wait for mods for this car I'm hoping for high potential by way of performance. Kind of shocked to see how slow the Cayman is in comparison to it's company.

Would be a different story if he compared the Cayman S and not the base Cayman

While I agree, the cayman S price is a lot more! So they aren't really comparable IMO. That being said, the base Cayman outperforms the M235i in everything except acceleration and MPG, so it's not too bad.

Nice thread and info!

Some small corrections and/or additional info regarding 1M:

Overboost oficial tq figure should be 369 or 370 lb.ft (BMW USA advertised figure is 370, others quote 369 lb.ft or 500 nm) but definitely not 375.

Motor Trend's World's Greatest Drag Race 2011 features 1M with 1/4 mile in 12.8 sec. like you say but trap speed at 110.2 miles. Maybe you quoted another Motor Trend test as the source, not one of my favorite magazines anyway. Just saying:

And weight distribution is 51.8 front/48.2 rear; some sources simply say 52/48.

IMO would be a valuable info if you could add factory fit tires (brand, type, size) in there as well.

And finally, I think a manual E92 M3 would be more meaningful instead of having two DCTs, one from 2008 and other from 2011.

Hope these help.

Having owned 3 E46 M3's with manuals I'm really more interested in how quick the manual M235 is in real world vs BMW's 4.9 figure. Especially since I ordered a manual and the E46 and 1M numbers are manuals.

It seems like the car will float around the high 12 low 13 figure for 1/4 mile and mid 4's for 0-60 manual or auto depending on driver of course. I can't wait to see some members numbers as time goes on with mods what the car will be capable of, should be fairly interesting.

I don't remember being this excited for a car in a long time.

thanks! I got the M3 and 1M facts from their test. I couldn't find manual times from motor trend from either of their test (2008 M3 and 2011 m3)
