Interesting zipphreak. We reused my original gaskets and clamps. The clamps are really robust.
Keep us posted on your results. Good luck!

Correct - primary chamber 400cpi @ turbo / inlet end and secondary chamber @ 200cpi towards outlet end

If it's a 300 cell dual chamber, both cats should be 300 cell. CPSI is a density measurement unit. You put 3 100-cell units one after another, you end up with a 100-cell triple chamber system, not a 300-cell system. I was asking a reliable source that confirm m235/m2 is a dual 600 system or otherwise.

The entire cat chamber in the Downpipe is what we refer to as primary cat, the secondary cats are the ones found in the mid pipe, which f87 doesn't have but f80/82 does.

Any experiences, suggestions or observations regarding sport cat DPs and the need for an intercooler upgrade? Mainly from use as a DD, and spirited driving here and there? Not looking to track it, but curious to know what people's views are on this topic, especially under regular summer conditions, 80-90F or so.

It is about as hot here as anywhere in the country and I have found no "need" for an intercooler upgrade as the result of installing the sport cat. If anything, the sport cat might make the engine run a bit cooler due to the lower back pressure, assuming the car is not pushed harder as a result of the extra hp. Of course, there would be nothing wrong with installing an upgraded intercooler with the sport cat and it would provide whatever benefits one normally gets from such an upgrade, but I don't think it is in any way "necessary". FWIW, regarding the other discussion above, I used the original clamps and gaskets in installing my FabSpeed Sport Cat, basically because it never occurred to me to get new ones. No issues so far with doing so, but if I were doing it over again, I think I might get new ones just to be safe or err on the side of caution.

There really isn't a need for an upgraded intercooler unless you are running a high horsepower car. There are plenty of stock intercooler cars that are making serious power and are located in warm areas. Will an intercooler help? Yes. But it wouldn't be my top priority.

BMW did it best. Please refer to the factory manual for replacing the downpipe. It is very straight forward.

Nothing is easy on your back on ramps It's doable, but it's 100% easier on a lift of course.

It can certainly be done on ramps but I wouldn't want to do it lying on my back.
For me it was well worth the 1.5 hours of labor I paid to have it installed.

I wish I had lift access. My local BMW CCA used to do garage days at the dealer, but apparently they've stopped because turn out has been low.

As the other guys stated - Yes, you 'could' do this on ramps but I'm not sure I would want to just because it is a pain in the...you know.

We budget 2-3 hours for installation time but most technicians get it done in about 1.5-2 hours.

Well crap. This all sounds pretty good. Might just jump on this band wagon. However, how will if work with Dinan Stage 2? I've had that on for the last 4,000 miles and am loving it. The aftermarket exhaust in the 335 droned at 2200 rpm and drove me crazy. Also, I have little tolerance for CEL lights.

Shoot me a price if you would (98038).

We never had any CEL issue with the Fabspeed sport cat

With the sport cat would you be able to run map2 with a jb4? Or can you only run map2 if you are fully catless?

Should be fine with the sport cat. That's what I did for a while. Always a good idea to run a log to make sure the car doesn't mind. If you aren't great at reading the log you can get help on n54tunning.

FMIC only if you dragging, tracking, or got money burning a hole in your pocket.

Plenty of cars in our group that are stock FMIC, that are turning good times at the track. 12.2xx in quarter mile with just dp and tune and Fabspeed deletes.

Once car has tune and downpipe, an intercooler needs to be added ... Its not a track only modification
