Convertible comfort access
The dealer did not say the roof would not open or close as well side windows will not go up without comfort access using the remote.
Would any of you guys know how to change the code so I can close and open the roof with the car remote. BMW will not help. |

Post this question on the diy and coding sub-forum. you'll get a good response there. I remember someone asking this same question except where they're from they call the roof the hood. For the life of me I couldn't understand why he wanted to open the engine compartment with his remote lol.

I don't see anything in the coding info that will allow top operation without comfort access, so it may not be possible without that option.

Even with comfort access, to open/close the roof you have to be right next to the car, and hold the button the entire time. It's not like you can be walking towards it and start the top-down cycle from the same range as the door unlock.
Thus I've installed this: http://www.mods4cars.com/sms/shop/in...de=view&id=128 And love it. It would solve all your desire fob-initiated actions.

The top does not worry me that much it was the windows up that did as I didn't realise until I noticed the windows were not closed when I came back to the car, but now I know. I was using the car for work last week for the first time and not putting the top up or down which works the windows.
I don't understand BMW not allowing windows to be closed with the remote. My 2009 Z4 was like this but so was most BMW cars back then. Its autumn down under so it's a nice time to drive with the top down as no burning sun to worry about as well its been a very dry warm autumn. Heated seats work brilliantly if it gets a little chilly. I'm enjoying the convertible it will be a year old in 3 weeks. It's also keeper for a very long time as it will do low milage every year. BMW will not change the design for 6-8 years. |

Yes, it took about 10 minutes to do.
The hardest part is reaching behind the panel and getting the harness clipped to the ECU, but that only took a couple of tries to get right. I'd almost say getting the seat belt receivers back through their slots in the seat bottom as you re-install it is actually the hardest part... to give you some frame of reference of how easy it is overall. And you do have the end of the original cable pulled out in sight (and can see/test how it plugs into the new module) as reference for what you're feeling back behind the panel.

SmartTop is easily installed and uninstalled (it just plugs in to the existing convertible top wiring plug). I unplug it and take it out before I take the car to the dealer. The cars computer's throw no fault codes with it installed. I've had one in my 135i for five years with at least a dozen warranty trips to the dealer (don't ask ) one of the trips was to replace a limit switch in convertible top wiring and no one ever mentioned SmartTop or questioned how I operate the convertible top. YMMV

My main thing was to be able to put the top up or down while moving. The 2 does that now. A friend of mine bought my c70. I told him about the smarttop. He may install it in the car. I know it's easy but,I'm still nervous about it. The CA must be tied to the sensors in each door and the trunk. That's why it only works when you are on top of it. Perhaps BMW will change that and only make the top tied to the remote. My 2004 Saab allowed you to put the top down via remote. Not up though.

The top is one thing but not being to close the windows with the remote when the top is up is just stupid on BMW's part.
