M235i Exhaust Valve Rattle Help

Came out to my car yesterday and noticed a loud rattling sound coming from the rear left on cold start. Upon inspection I found a pin/clamp had broken, letting the exhaust flap go buck wild and rattle around on its own

Does anyone have any idea what the part number is for this? It's U-shaped clamp/pin and basically acts as a connection between the exhaust pipe flap and the actuator to open and close it.

I searched around online and could only find the whole actuator unit, which is way too expensive. Already set an appt to get it checked out but I don't mind doing things myself for cheap if it means I can avoid a trip to the dealer.

Wouldn't it be a warranty item?

Cool, thanks guys. Know it would be covered but it looks like a $0.50 piece so it'd be nice to avoid taking off time from work and the whole service hassle. But yeah, planning to take it in on Thursday.

Update: was able to drop into the dealer before lunch today. Showed them the broken pin and just got word that they want to replace the whole exhaust! Should be here in 2 weeks. Drivable, but rattlefest in the meantime.

Don't go too crazy on your sport mode toggling kids!

Well, this morning mine was rattling when I started it up. I hadn't heard it before, I always start the car in the garage with the drivers door open, so I hear the exhaust echo in the room. The whole exhaust? Really? It would be cool to just pay the extra for the permormance exhaust, but I guess that would be asking too much.

Edit: This morning I started it up and there was no rattle. I could hear the valve switch after the first 15 seconds or so and the exhaust then goes quieter. I guess my exhaust valve isn't broken, but it leaves me wondering if this is a trouble spot.

Haha I asked exactly that! Guess they can't do the m perf exhaust because they can only get a matching part through the warranty claim. I tried though. And yeah, the SA thought it was ridiculous to replace the whole exhaust too but they couldn't fix with any parts in their shop.

This is ridiculous. What's next give us a new engine because of a gasket leak?? This is throw away manufacturing at its height. Imagine if this was not covered under warranty and the car was too old. :

Sorry to bring up an old thread but this year that same pin on my exhaust flap is also missing/broken. I will be calling into my local dealer to find out what they'll do, hopefully they could just replace the missing/broken part and be done with it. I don't think I need a new muffler... plus the time used to replace it.

For those who would be interested to know, my dealer replaced the missing tab/pin thing that connects the actuator and the flip. Sound is now gone and car sounds good once again.

You can always just remove the while thing and unplug the connector. Ive had them replace my exhaust twice now for this.

As soon as my new diffuser arrives the m2 exhahar is going on, and i will disable the valve.

Well, mine just went. Even left me a souvenir. Headed into the service center tomorrow to see if they can just give (unrealistic) or sell (that’s better) me a replacement pin.

Update: I found the part. My local dealers in NYC want $15-$17 for the part alone. It should be covered under warranty, but I feel like this would be the perfect 1st DIY fix for my baby girl.

If you're wondering, the part number for the "Fixing Bow" is 18307620323. Bavarian Auto has it for $8.

Lets see just how DIY this is. Anyone have experience replacing this?
