Dinan stage 1 feels slow?
Hey guys I raced a q50s awd on the highway and I pulled like a car length from 60-100 and after 100 I pulled more but I feel like it should be smoking the q50s! Car feels great 0-60 and 100+ but from 60-100 it definitely does not feel like 364hp. Any thoughts?

Well it came on the car already so I didn't spend 2k on it. But regardless I'm talking about 364 crank hp. That dinan stage 1 graph actually shows 315 whp which would be right around 364 crank.

And the race was where? Asphalt conditions, road temperature, traffic?? If you're on winter tires, even more impressive. Good job, BMW wins again

Take it to the track.
Race straight up. Check your time on the timing board. See who really won. Repeat as necessary. No one "wins" in street racing. |

Dinan is bms stage1 =\ @Delnari took it to Dyno it and returned it
I mean you can take it to service and see if they can look into your lack of power you're feeling. I know Dinan was no match to the RaceChip I have and drove against my friend 0-60 and then we took it to a low reading mustang dyno to see and proven Dinan is like bms stage1.

You will make more power with a JB tune for less. $$$

Well, since the car came with the Dinan Stage 1 already installed you are better off to keep it. It doesn't make the same power of the BMS, aFe, or Racechip (haven't tested this one personally yet), but Dinan Stage 2 is coming out and would be about the same price to upgrade as if you bought a piggyback now. I would try Stage 2 (should be out very soon) first since you already have the most expensive parts from Dinan installed; harness and ECU box.
The Q50 being faster than M235i is a question for the performance numbers posted from neutral sources (car mags). If you really think your car has an issue you can run the M Performance App on an iPOD or iPhone and test the performance times to see where you stand. With the aFe installed I was able to get a best 4.4 seconds for 0-60 time in 75 degree weather and dry pavement. With a Dinan Stage 1 on 93 Octane gas you should be just under 5 seconds which is just a couple tenths better than stock. |

Just for reference, I have the dinan stage 1, I agree it feels slow and will be upgrading to Manhart soon. That being said, using the m lap timer I have managed to get consistant 4.3 0-60s with a proper launch. I have xdrive which might account for the faster times.

Dinan does not suck, it just is a very conservative tune. If you want more power, you should get a JB4 + FBO

How worthwhile is it to add a BMS stage-1 tune to the M235 using 91 octane?
I want to retain all the drive ability that stock offers and want something super simple to install and remove. My concern is the 91 octane may just make this not worth the hassle. Thanks

Stock BMS stage 1 is safe with 91. Stage 1 can be increased by 1lb of boost (via connector and laptop) but only recommended with 93.

Thanks. Good to know it's safe. Is the tune very noticeable on 91 octane and does it retain the smoothness of stock?

Definitely and Yes. I have a 228 but it should be the same. Never heard anything different from 235 owners. I really have nothing but good things to say about it.
