All-season vs summer
I was tracking my production on bmwna and I noticed it showed all-seasons tires when I ordered summer. How much of a difference is there between the two and is the all season still pilot ss

Contact your dealer ASAP. Totally different tyres and with the all seasons you'll be limited to a 130 mph top speed vs 155 with the summer performance.

Well this is interesting, talked to the SALES MANAGER and he was unaware that the summers were non-rft and that they would get back to me on this issue. To be honest I'm getting pretty pissed

Good thing you found out during the process then before delivery. Worse case the issue can be corrected by the dealer once it arrives. Although it will required new tires/wheels and re-coding of the vehicle order.

Dave, I remember your "estimated production week" is Week 32, isn't it? Mine is the same but still cannot see anything on the BMWUSA website. I called the 800 yesterday and the lady suggest I call again later next week.

Make sure they fix this while the car is in production. My car was ordered incorrectly as well and they had to order me a new one since the computer cannot be reprogrammed once it leaves the factory

Yea the dealer said that they were either gona get it fixed over in Germany or swap everything out at the dealer. I also talked to him about the production going in early and since my allocation was more or less bought that it had priority. I bet you should be entering production very soon

This happened to me, I was pissed. Dealer had to order a completely different car to get it right. Be carefull when they switch out for the proper tires your back rim is still going to be narrower... This was the deal breaker for me as they said they could give me the right tires but not exchange rims and were not sure about the top speed limiter. Good luck to you, it is so frustrating but a lot of people had this problem.

Salesperson did not know anything about rim size change, permanent speed limit reduction or deletion of mobility kit with the 'all season' box checked. Service person at the dealership could at least explain the permanent speed limit reduction (legalities) but did not know any details beyond that. Called to BMW USA 800 'genius' number & they could not provide any meaningful detail level information & seemed not to know anything beyond what is written on the BMW USA website. Neither resource was aware that the all season rft's do not allow the car to handle as well as it ought (they were aware the summers were more sticky but they thought both tires were rft's). If it were not for the rim size change it would be a hard decision about the all seasons just due to rft tire price and my local weather. The rft's would be all I need for winter here and it seems like they are probably a 1200 + a set tire, so getting them and then buying the summers is a thought process. Anyway, for what it is worth to the next person. Unfortunately, decision criteria noted above (for example the rim size difference) is based upon reading this forum rather than official BMW info & is subject to error or to change. |
