Cargo Liner?

I'm getting ready to order the WeatherTech floor liners for the car and was thinking about getting a cargo liner too..

Do you guys think the WeatherTech cargo liner is better or should I order the BMW liner?

Are there any better options I should look at?

Thanks!

I can't comment on the WeatherTech product but my M235i came with the factory trunk liner. It's fine, does what it's supposed to do. I prefer the OEM option and have gone that route in my Honda, Lexus, and BMW cars. I've never been disappointed. I've checked out the WeatherTech stuff and was turned off by them stamping their logo all over them.

Weathertech is Great stuff. The logo is a sticker and can be pulled off.

I have the Weathertech in the X3 and OEM in the 228ix. I like the OEM's better especially the cargo mat, better fit and I like the red border.

It's the red border I don't like...

BTW, you guys have me rethinking my choice on the floor mats themselves now.. I'm wondering if I should just get the OEM ones for all the liners.

I have the weathertechs in the m240i and the x1, both floor mats and the cargo liner. One bonus that I like over the factory is the raised edges to keep the crap off the carpets. Specially if you're in an area where it snows, the slush is held better in the weathertechs than in the oems.

I particularly like the raised edges for the cargo liner in the x1 because I use that to take my grass clippings to the town compost. Sometimes the bottom of the bag I use is wet from letting the grass sit a couple days (cut on a sunny day because Saturday was raining and the compost is only open Saturdays).

Like others have mentioned, the red boarder was the turn off for me. My entire interior is carbon fiber, black, and very few brushed aluminum on a EBII car. Red wasn't going to work for me.

My OEM trunk mat is black and gray. This one: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-2...uine-bmw-part/

I have the factory red-stripe floormats, but I'm planning to replace them for next winter with Weathertechs - the lack of sides on them does let a fair amount of crap get onto the tranny tunnel and under the edges. Also the back edge stays raised up enough that it looks a little odd w/ the door open. Otherwise I do like the red accent look - I have the red stitching and red stripe trim, so it all works well together - if you are getting all black, then I'd go w/ the WT's and pull their sticker (I think s/b on here fashioned an '//M' logo somehow, but that might be wishful thinking? you could try a search to see.

Haven't got either in the trunk, but considering something - not sure how well the WT's fit around the edge, but it also looks like the factory one has some odd shape that doesn't fully fit to the edges. I'm debating - love the look, but fearing it will be slicker than the carpet (using one of those carrier-tray things that grips the carpet some, and it doesn't slide around much at all, but probably would on the slicker rubber).

Here's how the OEM mat looks and fits. It's inherently grippy, so nothing slips on it nor does the mat itself slip on top of the carpet. It leaves the anchors in the trunk area accessible, as well as the storage areas on each side. It does cover the smaller set of lashing eyes at the front of the trunk area, where you would use a small cargo net.

It looks like it would handle minor spills. I always have a non-absorbent luggage mat in the trunks of my cars. It makes life so much easier to be able to just pull it out and brush or hose it off from time to time. And it protects the carpeted area that is integral to the car. The only downside to it I see is that it scratches/scuffs easily.

On the subject of floor mats. I have had the Weathertech style mats that go up the sides of the footwells and, while they do protect the interior better, I don't like them much. They are pretty downscale looking and my feet tend to slip on them. They degrade the look and experience of the car, IMO.

I don't like full carpeted mats either, because they suck up all manner of sand, dirt, and debris. And they wear down where your heel sits by the accelerator.

I bought the OEM M Performance Mats, and so far I like them a lot. They are a different material--kind of a hybrid between carpeted and rubber. A tight mesh like a commercial grade, high-traffic carpet. They do allow small debris to collect at the edges of the footwell and around the pedals. But that's what a vacuum cleaner is for.

If I still lived in a snowy area, I might swap them out for the high-sided rubber mats in the Winter.

The weather tech trunk liner fits exactly the same as that, with the added sides being raised and the bottom being tectured as well. It feels like it'd be slippery, but my backpack and groceries don't slide around like I would have expected. It also covers the 2 lashing eyes near the seats, but the 2 anchors by the trunk opening are accessible and so are the 2 cubbies on the side. I'll try to remember to take a picture tomorrow when it's light out.

The weather tech doesn't seem to scratch too easily, but the one in the x1 does show slight marks where we slide some luggage in. Like wdc330i mentioned, the convenience of pulling it out to spray with the hose or quick wipe down with a damp cloth is a ton easier than trying to vacuum the carpet and possibly ruining the carpet if something spills or leaks. Hell I usually just vacuum the mat with my handheld Dyson and call it good.

I bought the BMW luggage compartment mat. Looks and fits great. There are little covered pockets to store store small items. The one negative, the lack of mounts for attaching the boot/trunk floor net.

I got the WeatherTech. It fits perfectly. You can optionally cut out the access to the attachment points for the net.

That looks really good.. and with being able to cut out the points, I think I'm going to go with that and remove all the weathertech speakers. LOL

Where are you guys finding the weathertech cargo liner? When I enter my car on their site, I only see the passenger liners?

Is there another set of attachment points not in the pic? Because I believe the net has three on each side and your pic only shows two per side that can be cut out.

I bought the WeatherTech for mine. It was cheaper, fit perfectly and has cutouts for the cargo net which the BMW did not. I have used WeatherTech before. They are a great outfit with a great product.

Yes, there are six attachment points, you can't see them because of the angle of the picture, they are too close to the rear of the car.

You can see one peaking up in the back of my photo. At the right.
