Frustrating update:

Got a call on Monday telling me the car was ready.

Pick up the car, let it warm up, first 1-2 shift around 5k, same exact vibrating/grinding.

I turned around and drove right back to the dealership.

I went in and talked to the service manager and told him my car wasn't fixed and that I didn't think my advisor ever listened to me.

After talking to the service manager, who was very polite, and knowledgeable, I went for a ride with the shop foreman in the car. I was instantly able to replicate the issue for him.

Fast forward to today, the shop foreman emailed me saying that him and the other foreman both think it's the dmf after driving it around. That would explain the vibration at high rpms, since it is most likely out of balance.

They said they are going to pull the trans again to check everything out.

My main concern now is that the added stress of whatever was wrong in the first place put stress on the synchros while shifting. I asked the foreman about this and I'm now waiting for his reply.

I don't think my original service advisor knew what he was doing, and he definitely didn't put any effort into explaining to the techs what I said. My guess is, they just threw a clutch at it hoping it would solve the issue.

If they actually drove the car they would have realized that a "worn out clutch" isn't going to cause a severe vibration and grinding
Overall I'm pretty frustrated about everything. I'm sure the service manager and shop foreman are too since their guys didn't know what they were doing and now they're pulling the trans again.

On the bright side, both the manager and shop foreman were extremely helpful and accommodating. I'm glad I was able to talk with them.

Gee, what a cock-up!

If it comes down to it, are you eligible for a buy-back under Mass' lemon law? IIRC, Mass allows that up to one year after you take delivery or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Something like this wouldn't qualify for lemon law. The car has 35k and is 2 years old.

I also would never want to lemon this car. Best car ever.

Hopefully last update with this issue.

Got my car back yesterday after they replaced the flywheel. This seems to have fixed the issue.

I missed driving my car so much

I'm glad to hear it and hope that's the end of it for you.
