Anyway, I think those really interested will be able to snag a car at some point in the next year.

Very different car than M cars though. M2 is more comparable to Cayman S IMO.

You won't get a gt4 for under 20k over sticker, unless you were on a list, gt3 991s are selling for 20 to 30 k above sticker still, and that's in the secondary market with some miles.

Whatever the webpage says for the stock is one thing, make a call and you will hear another.

Six months ago GT3 allocations were seemingly falling from the sky and you could get one built to your spec for MSRP if you looked. Now that production is coming to an end, yes, prices are going back up. I was able to get a GT4 allocation at MSRP but I was on a list. Whether values will stay high like the Gt3 will be a function of how many Porsche decides to build next year. It's not clear!

Bring on the M2 CSL please! And for a price attainable by mere mortals!

^^^That's the thing, I am hoping that I can save up enough of a down payment between now and when the '16s starting showing up to be able to offset the Cayman S price and hopefully get lucky on a dealer wanting to move a 15.

Hey, I can hope, right?

I have a GT4 coming in September. I was cross-shopping a bunch of cars: Cayman GTS, C63S, M3, M4, M2... But after test driving the Cayman GTS, I was blown away with its abilities. I heard about the GT4 wait lists opening up just after and decided to jump on it. Yes, it was past my initial budget, but the wife was on-board and I went for it. (Bless her heart! )

The amount of superlatives I am seeing from the media and European owners about the GT4 is getting me pretty excited. The whole Cayman line up is superb, and I feel the real fun starts with the Cayman S. I couldn't believe how easily the GTS I test drove took highway ramps without breaking a sweat. I also feel the Cayman is just a beautiful car and rare enough (Porsche doesn't sell very many anyways) where it draws smiles from many.

That being said the M2 is going be a great car itself and I think deciding between the Cayman S or M2 is a good problem to have. BMW and Porsche still share the core value of great handling in their automobiles, and that's why owners of both tend to have respect for either brand.

Oh trust me, as would I. But that GT4 is just out of my league for now. Not only the price of the car itself, but then I'd have to consider things like potential cost of repairs down the road, insurance (it'll probably end up being cheaper than the E92 and E36 combined) ect ect...

I'll definitely consider one in the future along with the 997 GT3. I more or less ruled out the 997 Turbo after reading your review (what you said makes perfect sense).

That's the thing about any Cayman - it just doesn't seem to have a bad angle, or area that doesn't look nice. I think the previous generation was awkward at the back - it didn't slope down the best or something. They have fixed that with the 981. It really does look awesome and when you put some nice 20s on it, it's just about perfect.

We need more ladies in the world like your wife - that's awesome.

There's a guy on the toll way that I see some mornings in his GT3 - my god that thing looks good - and he's always too far ahead for me to get an appreciation for the sound. But that would be on the list for sure if I were to win the lottery tomorrow.

I did.

Last day of the month = more willingness to move down from MSRP. So I was able to get the one I wanted. It's such a blast to drive - I really can't imagine what the GTS or GT4 would be like - the S is just so damn planted. I had a great night driving it around.

It has PDK, Sport Chrono, the 20' Carrara wheels, heated/ventilated seats (truly, the ventilated seats might be the best invention of all time), Navi, and the front and rear cameras. Those are definitely cool, but I probably would have rather had PASM - that's the only thing I didn't get that I might have wanted. But overall I couldn't be happier. It was a great day.

Mad props to Neil @ Plano Porsche if anyone is in the area and interested. Good dude and got me a good deal.

I am going to be watching the M2 development with a lot of interest regardless - let's hope for a unveiling sooner rather than later !

I gotta give it to you bud. You don't just talk the talk but you walk the walk!
Great choice and color scheme, more photos of the interior, care to disclose what constitutes a "good deal?"
PM if needed.

PM sent.

In all honesty, I knew the other day on the test drive that I was sold - it was just a matter of trying to find the right car and the best possible deal - I am not sure if a great deal really exists in the Porsche world, but I think I did about as well as I could have expected to.

I don't think I slept more than 2 hours total either, which I think is a good sign...

Sick car, white looks great.

As I'm seriously debating a base cayman to replace my 235, how would you compare the two cars? Real world driving, living with day-to-day, anything you miss from the bimmer?

You'll miss the torque and the space if you are a bigger guy. You'll gain better handling and general build quality. Both great cars though.

Congrats. No worries on not having PASM since now if you want more, it's a bit easier to just upgrade to X73.

This is actually true. The BMWFS lease residuals are almost always inflated, so at the end of the lease you say "screw it, take it back" and get another one. It's a lease treadmill.

Congratulations on your new ride!
