Garage List
The 100th anniversary is technically for the motorcycle/aircraft engine manufacturing. Maybe we'll get a flying motorcycle for 2016!

I'd buy it, and fly / ride the shit out of it.

Compiling some info:

The final version of the M2 base version will not be presented before the M4 GTS (likely we get to see some M2 teasers in the forthcoming weeks/months):

The M4 GTS will be presented "as preview concept" on August 16, 2015 at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2015 (California):

Essentially the M4 GTS will be a production model of the BMW M4 Safety Car which was the M4 GTS "Concept".
Last Autumn Bimmerpost announced that the product version of the M2 base version will be on display from September 17-27, 2015 at Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 (Germany), and thus not earlier. That info is still consistent with the more recent info. Coincidence: BMW CCA Oktoberfest 2015 (Galloway - New Jersey) takes place during the same period (September 21-27, 2015):

The "fangs" which provide function really add an aggressive look to the car. Its body is more muscular than the standard 2er including the M235i so there is a distance between the two to allow both M2 and M235i to flourish. Wheel arches are broader especially at the rear.
Both M2 and M4 GTS will be launched in late 2015. And both models are considered for further progress.
For 2016, two CSL models (concepts) are scheduled. Let's see whether the M2 CSL is one of these:

For now there will be an M2.
But there may be hope for an M2 CSL getting to the US, as in the meantime the news was revealed that at least the M4 GTS will be on sale in the US:

Thanks as always for this summary, Artemis !

So I guess no M2 for 3 and a half months? Darn, that's a longgg time. Hopefully the teasers will be really good!

That just seems odd to me. Has BMW ever wait until less than 2 months before production to reveal a car? What is the marketing thought process for that?

They don't want people to hold off on their M4 and M3 orders as the M2 concept may make many, many potential M4 and M3 buyers wait until they can test the M2 as it will be cheaper. We've already seen to non young crowd start ditching for the M3 already right here on the forum due to impatience. That is what BMW wants. That is my thought. The positioning of this car in the BMW lineup is very tricky, and it's obvious that BMW is already doing a bunch of things to put it in a very specific niche, i.e. no S engine, no CF roof, 4 colors, one interior. It will be a very special car, but they are making it 'take it or leave it' for a reason. That's my gut feeling.

I don't read Scott's post the same way as you do.

I read it as he says that the next M after the X5M/6M is the M2 and then it will be some time before a completely new M is released (the M5) but during that time the M4 GTS is revealed.

See this "breathing space" post of November 2013 about the M2:

Engineering has already commenced.
But I must repeat there will be an M2 but it is not coming tomorrow.
For now [2013] this is the M235i's moment. The gap in both cars between will allow appetites to be whet and new ideas to be conceived and thoroughly evaluated.
The gap will also allow the new M3 and M4 breathing space.
In the meantime (May-September) we will likely be teased ad nauseam.

Well, if their 3er sedan and coupe (now 4 series) didn't get so big and bloated, they wouldn't need a model under it.
But, then again, all cars of all makes and models have gotten bigger due to more electronics, bigger engines, more safety features, bigger wheels and brakes, more amenities.

Same. I check the forum now and then to see new pix because I am curious. But at this point I have pretty much crossed the M2 the list.

The flaw in that logic is that they would be assuming the buyer is solely looking at BMWs. I really have no interest in the M3/4 due to the size. So instead of BMW losing $15K between the M2 and M3/4, they risk losing the $55K+ if someone like myself jumps the BMW boat and considers a porsche, VW, or the American competition.

Same situation here. One of the biggest draws for me right now is the ED trip. If I was just getting a normal delivery I'd be looking at the other 2016 options (gt350,rs3, etc..) along with the M2.

Exactly great point, M2 just needs a decent reveal.

+2. Also, you got to figure a few are not going to wait for the M2 and go for the 235 rather than the 3/4.

There are a lot of great cars out right now. Back when you had the e30, 46, and 9x, the M's offered solid performance gap. Recent competion is currently narrowing that gap.
