Yes you definitely could. I bought my f80 3 months after release and paid invoice + 1000, a healthy 3100 dollar discount on a 70k msrp car

nice... that's unusual... in some markets they will hardly go below msrp at launch

but if they need to move cars, then maybe they are willing to take less....

Cool, thanks. I'll wait three months and shop around. There are 30 something BMW dealers in the Los Angeles area. Makes it a lot easier to shop for a deal.

You may have to call several dealers, but don't let that deter you. Euro Delivery is an amazing experience. BMW AG wants you to experience the purchase this way, you just have to find a dealer that is familiar with the process. Keep in mind that you can also spec for Performance center delivery, so the dealership where you purchase the vehicle can be anywhere in the country.
I know my dealer sends a lot of people over for ED, it's just they seem to be on the mindset right now that ED won't be available or have the 7% rebate. I'm not sure of us Canadians can do the performance centre thing.

The only other dealer in my city is owned by the same guy, so that doesn't help me any. The next closest dealer is over 300km away (200mi). The dealers at that distance I know are just as terrible as the city they're in, so I'll pass on even walking through their doors. Vancouver has a couple of good dealers, but that's a 1000km trip. That's too far for me to bother trying to save a few bucks.

I paid $2000 over ED invoice (about 13% below US MSRP) on my M5, and it was one of the first 3 competition pack EDs. Only reason I paid 2k was because 1k went to my client advisor, and 1k went to the other dealership we had to get the allocation from.

My CA traded a 1st off X5 allocation, and an M3 allocation to get it -- the dealership wanted another grand or so to go to the F&I and managers, but I wouldn't budge, since it was wholly a paperwork sale for them. I bought the car from a dealership in VA, and had it delivered to a dealership in TX where I was stationed at the time.

Moral of the story -- find a dealer willing to work with you, anywhere in the country, if you are going to do an ED. Realize how allocations are doled out may create an overpriced market, at least at first. I don't think any dealer has any idea of how many allocations they will get or how they will work yet -- in the old school days, ED's did not come out of dealer allocation, so $1000 over invoice was pretty easy to get through since it didn't take a car off of that dealer's lot. In places like Cali, bespoke M's can go for $10k-25K over invoice. But that dealer in middle of nowhere America, may not even go for a M2 allocation because they think it will just sit on their lot or they will have to do a bunch of work to get to another dealership eventually -- find that dealership, and offer them an easy couple grand over invoice to do the paperwork, and they may bite. For at least the near term, I would guess that 1-3k below MSRP for the first M2s off the line would be a fantastic deal. If they decide to produce this car at M3/4/5/6 volume, end of 2016 MY deals will be great.

If you do ED + PCD you essentially have the option of trying every dealer in the country (without paying transport fees to have it shipped locally). I believe that's 300+.

I'm guessing you meant 1-3k below MSRP not 1-3k below invoice. Otherwise, yes, that would be a fantastic deal. More accurately, fantastic +++

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but If you ED order through another state's dealership, what taxes do you pay?

The taxes of the state you plate the car in.

Ah damn, I was thinking maybe you could avoid state taxes all together by ordering through Montana or something hah... but does that mean you pay taxes at the time of purchase or at the MVD when the car gets shipped from Europe? Because in AZ you don't pay taxes on "used" cars

Short answer is it depends (are you buy or lease? state requirement?) Though the car is technically yours even before you pick it up, it is temp registered and insured overseas for ED. Once you take final delivery it will need to have temp tags of the state you pick up in. All of this paperwork usually has to be done at the purchasing dealership before you even go overseas. All good dealerships should be able to register a car in any state. For most states, the car is considered new unless it has been previously registered and/or it is 6 months old. I even had a certain state try to full sales tax my wife's 1 year old 3 series that she brought back from military assignment in England!

I will most likely buy. I'll have to research the AZ rules, because as if ED isn't desirable enough adding no taxes would make it impossible to pass up.

If you are in the military, and AZ tax rates are not to your liking, you may want to research military residency requirements for states with lower tax rates. A Google search will reveal which states they are. It may be possible to complete the process entirely by mail.

You will still get the CCA rebate provided your membership is at least 12 months, but that's done directly through the CCA and not the dealer.

Ok. Your high end and the previous poster's low end are only 5 points apart. Not sure if that's drastic bit agreed that every K counts.
