If a 2er GC manifested, there is no guarantee that it would be built in the Leipzig plant. The 4 series is built in Munich, the 4 cabrio is built in Regensburg and the 4 GC is built in Dingolfing. With a lower scale production car like the 2 series, it's likely that it'll be built in the same plant as the 2er coupe and cabrio, but I don't think any of us can claim it a well known fact.

For me it is all about the size. A M235 GC would be right in line with my e46 ZHP. I miss the 4 doors, but the M3 is just too big for my tastes.

Is the M3 a better track car then the M235i, yes. Is the driving experience different, yes. Is the M235i a great GT that can be tracked, yes. Depending on what you want, it is a major point of the deciding process.

A M2 GC or M240 GC would be a "just right" situation for many of us who think BMW's have expanded to a ridiculous extent. The new M3 is larger then the E34 5 series was when I bought my e46.

What would you see as the differences in the two, and why would the M2GC that you envision be better?

All I can think of is smaller than an M3 , but with two more doors than the M2.

Is this all because people want into a fourdoor M at a cheaper price point?
I have an F80 M3 and I do love it but I really, really want a smaller car, the E90 was the perfect size IMHO but E46 size is OK too. I don't like that the F80 is about the same size as my E39 was.

I hope they build it but I might buy an M2 coupe if they don't. I don't want a 2 door but I could make it work.

Another owner proves to BMW that bigger isn't always better.

I'm nearly dumbstruck that BMW hasn't figured out they should make a replacement for the E36 M3 sedan sometime in the last 18 years or so...

It's very simple. BMW knows what you want more so than you do since your valid, widely held desires are simply wrong. They say so. They are all-knowing, perfect car-making geniuses -- they even have geniuses in their dealerships now. We all just need to "understand" that BMW's financialized marketing plans that slice up the USA market into, what, 50 different "models" right now are what is good for short-term financial marketplace milking and extraction of 45 years of customer goodwill from the customer base. Since all corporate internal rewards are tied short term modern-MBA-think, that is *all* that matters.

For those of us old enough to have lived through this before, it sure looks like Detroit's position circa 1975 right now. History doesn't repeat but it sure does rhyme. The massive size bloating will deflate, and it will likely be forced by the market...just like 40 years ago.

Sorry but I'm not that far off the deep end...

I do own a 1m, the current m3/m4 are excellent for what they are ( although they are an m5 and m6 actually) , the M6 gran coupe is absolutely mother fucking badass, and the M2 should be a very nice redux of the 1M...

Sales are booming and the company is making money so they can build some niche vehicles.

I'm not so jaded about the past that I'm gonna act like its the coming of the end of times for BMW AG
