Ughh, eco mode makes me cry. Maybe if I was on a long highway trip I might think about using it, maybe......

I'm ordering one of these:

http://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-ACC...kberry+gateway

One of the CA's at my dealer told me about it. It's got great reviews and for $36 you can't go wrong. Don't let the name fool you, it works with any smart phone that's A2DP enabled.

Edit: Sorry for the off topic.

Ah, cool I already have a similar one. I think the Homespot? Currently use it to stream music to my soundbar.

QFT.

I think it is worse than a Prius in this mode...

Comfort and a smooth foot is all you need. Eco feels unsafe to me. To forced.

M235i Auto 23 MPG average 1200 miles.

I'm not quite sure why all the whining about Eco Pro mode? If you put your foot into a little, it pretty much goes just as fast as does Comfort. It seems like its only the first half of the throttle pedal throw that it really restrictive.

theres no point in using eco pro if your going to push the pedal that far. your pretty much driving in eco pro like comfort.

+1 Honestly, the Eco mode is nearly worthless, unless you are in true stop 'n go traffic, where you can basically idle your way along for a while.

I too feel like they could have done a better job smoothing out the delivery of the choked back power in Eco - there is nothing, nothing, nothing so you keep pushing - and then all the sudden, it acts "normal"...kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion.

Update on mine - I am at 2100 miles and the MPG remains stubbornly below 20 MPG. I ride in Sport + and basically nothing else.

Also, Eco only works up to 75 MPH. Who goes 75 on the highway?

According to my trip computer, I averaged 25.9 mpg in my first 1900 miles. That includes top speed jaunts, but a lot of highway miles.

This is where it seems unsafe. I am perfectly capable of driving a car slowly and smoothly but in eco you need to depress the pedalled than 50% just to speed up. Then it goes up to much. So you wasted gas. The only good thing about eco are the other settings that it activates like eco climate etc that helps fuel as well.

The main feature of ECO mode which is hard to replicate is the coasting when lifting at highway speeds. Otherwise, agree that careful driving in comfort mode yields similar MPG results.

That's true about the other settings - I had forgotten about that.

I wonder what happens when it is 90 outside and you have the A/C cranked? Does only the fan blow? Will be interesting to see...

I am not worried. I commuted daily in a pick up truck for years and got less than 20 mpg. Also, I can buy gas at American prices here in Germany. But if I have to fuel up outside of Germany it will probably be painful.

In case anybody was wondering about the real world mileage for the 228i for a comparison to the m235i, I have been getting around 30.5 mpg average.

My first 3/4 tank on my 228 yielded 23mpg (math and obc) with all city driving, mostly in Eco-pro.

this proves eco pro is completely useless assuming you've been pushing the pedal pretty far. because i get the exact same milage driving on sport.

With 415 miles on it since new, it is showing 24.2 MPG average. Majority of driving has been in the Comfort mode.
