2 series Xenon Lighting help
I just picked up my 2 series today and ordered with the lighting package. I just have a few questions about the different settings.
1. What does "daytime running lamp" option in the idrive menu actually control? I turned this off and on and couldnt tell a difference or notice what it actually controlled. 2. I would like to have the Angel Eyes on in the daytime but cant seem to figure out how to have them on without that amber light in the corner being on also. I dont like the looks of that amber light. Is there a way to have the Angel eyes on in the day and the orange light off? 3. Is there a difference (of how it looks) in the daytime if I have my selector on Auto vs Low beam setting? Thanks everyone. |

1 - This turns DRL's in the front headlights on or off. I am not sure if it actually turns the angel eyes off - it's possible this option does nothing in the US. (I have not tried).
2 - Removing the amber light can be done via coding. Check out the coding section. I had it done on my F30 and it looked cool, but admittedly the amber marker is valuable to have for other drivers. 3 - If your lights are on auto, the DRL's will be on during the day. If you put in in low beam, the low beam lights are on.

Angle eyes are only on during the day if you turn on daytime running option.
The amber lights are not on with the daytime running lights. Last edited by DanG; 05-27-2015 at 08:21 PM.. |

I must confess I am baffled by the lighting setup for this car. I am used to low-beams, high beams, fogs and running lights, not all the stuff mentioned in the manual's attempt to explain BMW's way of doing this…so I just leave the switch on auto and forget about it.

2. Refer to #1. The "Angel Eyes" are on as "Daytime Running Lights" in your lighting controls under your settings menu, as you've found. 3. Auto just controls whether the lights need to be on or not. If you're driving on a trip or commute and it gets dark, the headlights will be told to turn on. They'll operate the same way whether you have them in Auto or have the switch to the 'on' position. As hyperzulu mentioned, when you have them in the 'on' position.. the lights will no longer swivel with your steering wheel input (turning.) Quote:

And NOT scolding you in any way...but the ambers on are on safety. You can't see them when in the car...and I can assure you NO one coming at you or sitting at a corner is saying..."YIKES, he's got those terrible ambers going". Rest in the fact others can see you a bit better....less chance of a bump in the night sort of adventure. LOL

Thanks to everyone for the extremely helpful responses. This definitely does clear things up. I was referring to amber during the day and it looks like if its set to ON then the amber is on with angel , however, if I change it to Auto like everyone suggested then the amber does not come on with the angel. Thanks again

I think he's referring to some videos of cars that show the LEDs flickering due to some form of photography vs LEDs. Not sure how to explain it, but I know what he's talking about but I do know that it's not actually flickering haha

Not so much photography, but videography - your camcorder's frame rate and/or shutter speed do not much the current frequency in your car, hence the stroboscopic effect...

To a camera that is capturing over 30fps (which is why you notice this most in slow motion race footage) the pulsing is obvious.
