I love the blue! All you need now is painted front reflectors.

They're on my list, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Wow....that's a great, clean look! The Gunmetal really works well with EBII!

Did you notice any difference in body roll with the installation of Dinan Springs?

It's hard to tell exactly without going back to a stock setup for comparison. I do feel like it's been reduced though. It's still not as flat as it would be with coilovers and larger sway bars, but I think it's a great compromise for a primarily street driven car.

Ok great. Thanks for the response. I'm on 19" wheels and the handling, I believe suffered just a bit. Since I am not on RFT's, that might have caused the difference. I'm putting on H&R Sports this coming wk, so I'm anxious to see the difference, even though I know it won't be drastic. At least it will have a stance I'm after and will look more aggressive.

Looks amazing. Did you install the extra handling kit by Dinan as well or just their Springs?

Anyway you can do a full write up of your DIY? It would be great to have an F22 specific guide to refer to.

Thanks. Yes, I installed the handling kit as well. I'm not sure how much more I can describe the process. If I'm in there again for some reason, I'll take some pics and write something up.

Yeap, the sale was what pushed me over the edge. I was still considering the H&R before that since they were cheaper.

Most modern car suspensions I've worked on are relatively similar, at least close enough you can figure out the few differences pretty easily.

My biggest issue was I had trouble getting the shock body pulled out of the lower mount on the fronts, I just couldn't seem to find enough room to get them all the way out. I improvised and found an easier way, though, since I wasn't replacing the shocks and didn't really need to remove them.

First, I removed the sway bar linkage to give more wiggle room for the shock body, then I removed the 4 bolts holding the upper mount onto the shock tower. I then used a spring compressor to compress the spring slightly to keep it from releasing on it's own. Then I removed the top nut holding the shock to the upper mount. I was now able to pull down the suspension enough to get the mount out of the way and remove it for now. Then I removed the spring compressor. Now, if you twist the spring while pulling it out, you can actually remove it right through the top of the shock tower. I was also able to switch out the bump stops through this same hole.

Then, simply twist the new spring back down through the hole and reverse the steps. The new spring was enough shorter/softer that I didn't need to use the spring compressor to reassemble. I simply pressed down on it with my body weight enough to get the nut started and then used the impact gun to finish tightening it. That part would be tougher without air tools as a normal ratchet would cause the whole shock to want to spin. The impact also made the sway bar linkage much easier as it kept it from spinning as well. Just be careful not to over tighten.

Is there an electrical hookup for the adaptive shocks that has to be dealt with in this install or is that a non-issue?

I don't remember having an issue with any electrical hookups. I can't really remember, but nothing stands out.

So you never actually removed the shock from the pinch bolt, correct as there shouldn't have been any need to if you pulled the springs up through the housing?

My spring are on their way.

Very nice looking car, snodgrass23, congratulations!

FWIW, here is my 228i with the Dinan springs, bump stops and 15mm spacers F/R. I wish I had the talent/experience to do the install myself but I do not, so am fortunate to have a superb indie BMW tuner shop nearby. Their work is immaculate.

I never thought I would like this mod as much as I do. I find the drop perfect; very much more and it can look like something broke. More importantly -- to me, anyway -- the effect on handling has been very significant, especially alongside the extra power put out by the tune. The car does not understeer anything like the way it did, enabling me to brake later approaching sweeping corners and stay on the gas longer. I am really gratified by the dialing out of body roll, lean and dive. The car is much livelier and more sensitive to inputs; it corners flatter, when you hit the gas it picks up very quickly and positive brake input (both applying brakes and lifting off) feels like sports car dynamics should. The power is getting put down on the road rather than getting dissipated in too soft a suspension setup. It's a fantastic mod.
