They don't have them in stick so it wasn't a consideration for me.
I did consider a STI and a mustang GT though.

Coming from a IS350, the IS-F was a strong front runner for me for about 2years. Then I started having problems with my Lexus and realized how much I hate driving automatics. One test of the 235 in manual and I was sold and never looked back. My only problem now is if I should mod or not!!

Drove my buddies ISF, personally I liked it a lot. The sound is intoxicating and it has gobs of power. However, that said, I do love my M235i. To each their own. I don't think either owner would be upset with their choice.

My last car (except for the 4 mo I owned an Audi) was a 2012 - ISF. I loved the car - handled well, easily could control the rear end, balanced and sounded sexy as hell.
They are different cars - NA vs forced induction - if you want to tune/upgrade 2 series - stick with a car "mostly stock" - ISF. The market for BMW after market is better imo. Pics of my F in my garage link.

When i was looking to purchase, either the condition was crappy or price was very high, and it was never the right color. Perhaps if I ran into something I really like (2012+ USB), I could see myself getting rid of my m235i

The 2013-2014 ISF was the car I was going to get. I was dead set on it for years and when it came time to buy in October/November of last year, I came damn close to buying a couple of hardly used 2013-2014s ISFs for $48-50K. I was 8 hours from driving to St. Louis to get a 2013 when I got cold feet. I just couldn't convince myself to drive an auto even though the 8AT in the ISF is STELLAR (just as good as the M235's 8AT, IMO). The V8 sounds, instant throttle response, handling, and a true LSD as stock (2012+ cars) is exceptional. Beyond the automatic only issue, the aftermarket is pretty slim. However, the car is pretty much bulletproof and it's damn easy to get them into the low to mid 12s with minimal work. The car is heavy though ~3,800lbs and not real roomy in the back (barely more room than my M235 plus the ISF seats don't fold down).
At the end of the day, I ordered a new M235 6MT for fractionally less than what a used ISF would have cost me. With all that said, I may still pick one up in the future as my sedan cruiser. They're relatively plentiful and people don't seem to drive them much. |

I assume all the performance numbers are roughly the same on m235i+LSD and ISF..... |

Interesting comparison. An N/A V8 to a turbo I6 is two completely different worlds. Not to say one is better than the other but I'd be interested to drive them back to back and see how it feels. This has me thinking now...

Former 2012 ISF owner, fantastic car and I would definitely buy another one.
Fantastic straight line power while being a comfortable cruiser as well. As others have said above, the AT is on par with that of the 2 series and has the same good resale value of the 2er. |

I always liked the 2IS style and ISF was my dream car, I test drove a few, but ended up with m235i....manual and it was a much better buy. Now that I have this car, I wanna test drive ISF again and compare, unfortunately none in my area now. What attracts me to ISF is the V8, it's exclusivity, and reliability.....But BMW does have many things over Lexus, especially the one I ended up buying.
PS. We also bought my wife IS350 for almost half the price of similar ISF. I must say that I do enjoy driving that car sometimes. |

Drove 2010 today....Pretty impressive power and sound, better steering then M235i I think. Not sure if I would pick my M235i or ISF (if one I like was close by). Unfortunately all tech is dated and trunk space is small compared to BMW. Idrive is light years ahead of that old Lexus touchscreen, rear folding seats are a big win too. Small tech like headlights, rear camera, etc...all better in BMW as well
