Primer for New Members

In a brief departure from my cranky old man and rantings of late, figured it may be helpful to compile a list, by topic, of the most helpful threads on the forum - maybe even external sites that are on-topic and relevant. Will take recommendations from seasoned veterans and update this first post. Hopefully new members can come here, get a lay of the land, and proceed with caution from there. Basically check the best threads, do a search, then ask a question (in the appropriate sub forum) as needed. To get us started:

FNG Sticky

How about a new Sticky for the FNG's (Funny New Guys)?

Among other things, it could point them to resources on how to find rolls of flight line; relative bearing grease; glide stretcher; how to drain the air tanks on their 2-series, etc.

I second this with reckless abandon, yet a calm and well mannered demeanor.

Good stuff.. Most forums get forgotten about and occasionally get stale. I imagine that it can get difficult to solve a problem.

Keeping current and relevant items such as those mentioned above up top will perhaps help new folks in their search as I imagine most search engines mine the entire site but return the most top level results before the last.... (This is assumed ignorance and not factual..)

Regardless, well positioned idea.

Here's an external site that's on topic. This guy covers a wide variety of topics pretty thoroughly. Here's one good example of his videos about shifting for max acceleration.

All that to find out what most sports car drivers already know.

I hereby submit for consideration of the 2Addicts bored (misspelling on purpose) that:

The term 'noob' be replaced with 'FNG' (Funny New Guy or Funny New Gal)

That way, every time one of us s over a new member, we can say "I got FNGered!"

Wow. I mean well done, but horrible. Better to be the FNGer-er and not the FNGer-ee.

I imagine folks here understand what the acronym FNG means in the military?

It's similar, so it kinda-sorta works ...

As long as we don't spell that version out and trigger a TOS alert!

I spent almost 3 years in the US Army back in the dark ages, so I witnessed the FNG phenomenon first hand; both as one and later in command of the newly arrived FNG's on our team. I must admit it was kind of fun messing with them.

I actually think there was a thread somewhere on here discussing this. And a bunch of guys were saying that their torque curve shifted with the tune, and that they should short shift where peak torque starts tapering off.

I think I posted this video and a few others agreed with it. You can literally do the math to find where the optimal shift point is if you have a Dyno. It might be where peak torque tapers but it will likely be at redline or closer to it.

I think some real world examples do show that short shifting on the n54 and n55 is beneficial. It just will be different for every car depending on timing.

This makes sense to me. The torque is fierce, so use it.
