I've driven a 328 with the N20 before, and my wife's 228i with an N26 as well. The B48 in the 330 seemed like it had a little more low-end torque that came on quicker. It's definitely not like a 335 or 340, but I was surprised how quick the 330 was. I also got a loaner 340i when I had the fuel pump recall done on my 335, and it also seemed to have more initial low-end torque (my 335 has the MPPK and MPE), but sort of ran out of breath at the high end. I did like both cars, although I'd opt for a 340i if I was buying a new one.

I do know that the N20's torque came on about 200rpms earlier than the B46. My understanding is that BMW changed the gearing on the ZF8 to accommodate for the torque coming on later. My other understanding is that at high speeds the B46 equipped cars are slower because of the gearing changes to better hwy mpg.

I'd love to see them do 0-60, 30-100, and possibly 0-top speed on a N20 car vs B46 car of the same. I have a feeling that outside of 0-60, the N20 equipped car is going to be quicker and have a higher top speed.

Thanks. I've got a 2016 MY F23 with a Sept 2015 production date.
So far I have not heard anything from my dealer about this, but they may have made the repair during my last service appt. Will check with them.

I took my 2016 228i Convertible in today for my second oil change and microfilter replacement. They told me about the recall. They said as it is not a safety issues they are not required to notify owners by mail, etc.

They said they would look for damage, but could not do the work as they didn't have the parts. They didn't find any damage on mine. They said they would order the needed parts and let me know in about 2-3 weeks when they arrived. They said the job takes 5-6 hours, but I am assuming that is if the headliner needs replacing.

5-6 hours is bullshit my headliner was replaced in under 2 while they did my Stage 1 install.

Were they hand weaving a new one out of unicorn fur or something? That's insane.

Mine is in now. The SA mentioned it to me when she looked up the car. Ordered the part yesterday. Tech is off today. They are telling me Thursday or Friday. My first service, plus a couple minor things.

Canadian 2er ragtops are being reinforced with genuine Saskatchewan sealskin bindings - and that take a bit more effort...

Just an update:

After seeing the TSB posted in this thread (thank you BTW!), I had a better idea of what this is about. So, I went and inspected my car. I peeked behind the headliner as much as I could see (which wasn't much). I noted near the top of the rear windows there is an elastic strap that is starting to fray.

I took the car back to the dealer today to show the service advisor. He wasn't sure if this is the part that needs to be replaced or not. He thought the part is directly behind the window.

He informed me that as I had no headliner damage they couldn't do the fix. I referred him to the TSB and quoted where it says to replace the straps if there is no headliner damage. He ended up agreeing to replace the straps as noted by the TSB. This won't take place until June 15th.

How did yours come out? I'm always paranoid about the dealer doing more harm than good, especially since I don't currently have any damage. It is like elective surgery!

Mine came out great - no problems at all, and all it needed were the straps. No damage to the top or headliner.

Get it done. You don't want to wait 'til there's a tear in the top fabric.

Here's the recall code and part numbers:

My headliner was torn and I reluctantly let my dealer replace it since I was pretty much the first person to go in for the recall. Convertibles aren't really popular here so I knew for sure the guys at the dealer would be extremely inexperienced. I let them keep the car for a couple of days to do other work on the car and take their time working on the headliner and not mess up anything and it turned out perfectly in the end!

The official quoted labor times in the technical campaign documents are:

Check the headliner and rework the headliner tension cable: 5 FRU (30 minutes)
Check and replace the headliner: 25 FRU (2.5 hours)

As you can see, replacing the headliner is a much more complicated process so it should be a no-brainer to go in and get it done before it gets torn, and to refrain from using the top until they get it done.

It would have been done Thursday, but for other things being done. There was no damage. They replaced the tensioning straps. The top still works. The SA said it's not hard but it's time consuming. Works fine.

Looks like mine may be one of those damaged. Not the headliner itself, but I noticed what I believe to be one of the tensioning straps on the passenger side (right side, I am in the U.S.) side hanging down, and it looks like it's been ripped.
