Highly impressed with the stats on the m240. Definitely a bargain! Even the 230 is gonna be a little animal

M240i x-drive is going to have better straight line performance in real world scenarios than the M2. The typical stop light to stop light adrenaline chaser will break many hearts in the near future...

With the B58 being more tune-able than the n55 in the M2, BMW should have improved the turbo on the M2. Definitely my biggest gripe with the M2.

I wouldn't be so envious.

They tout that it makes the same figures as the 1M - true - but the rpm peak is at 5500 rpm, not closer to 6500 rpm like the 1M.

The M2 is actually WAY more willing to rev at the top end than the 1M. There is a significant drop off in power after 6500 rpm on the N54B30T0 while the N55B30TO makes good power right up to the 7k range.

Owners can tune it all they want but Compared to the M2 these will definitely not rev as high. They will be awesome daily drivers though.

The 230 will be a pocket rocket.

The people who really should be upset all own M235i... Least it is a ten best car.

Lol this just makes it less painful to strip it down and make it a track/project car in a year or two

This is a better motor than the m2's... especially for tuning on pump gas...

Well looks like I found my next car come June of next year. M2 priced itself out of my desired budget for the Time being.

Faced with waiting times and crazy dealer markups, some prospective M2 people are going to say, 'Hey, close enough.' Some are likely doing that already with the M235i, but these impressive engine stats make the switch that much more likely.
It has the same torque as the M2.The M2 has 369 lb-ft of torque with overboost.

Wonder if we can order specifics for PCD yet? And if there are any other differences in 230i besides engine? Change in standard options, etc (they should really make xenon standard).

Dammit! I guess there's no turning back. Will just have to live with the N55 in the M235i. It's like the lame engine sandwiched between the N54 and B58...

You guys need to chill ye the B58 will be a great engine, Probably going to be long runner just like the N55 but as with the N55 all new engines will come with weird problems in the beginning until they are solved. And with BMW removed loads of stuff of their warranty list i would be extremely careful, So let a couple of 100-200 people buy it in the first year of 2017 then follow BMW forums closely look what they have for type of issue and buy a late 2018 LCI model and you are are pretty safe from that point on .

And a lot of people here tend to put the 235/240 against the M2 i think you should avoid doing that cause thees two cars even though they look a lot like each other on the outside they are breed for two different purposes. The M2 being the latest one is a track monster yes it will be a good daily drive but on the track is where it will shine the most where you can push it to its limits without worrying about killing anyone except yourself. Whilst the 235/240 they are good on the track but even better on the roads dealing with day to day issues. My biggest issue with the 235/240 is the weird tire offset and sometimes i wish they would have designed it for a bit larger tires tbh.

But for me i am mostly exited about a M240 Grand Coupe if it arrives i want a 5 door saloon so badly but i don't like the 3/4 series and the M3 is good value these days tbh with the S55 it just might be an option in the future but its design is getting old so BMW better be putting out a new 3/4 series soon

So relax people its still a 235 though called 240 from now on just with a new engine the rest will probably be the same, Suspension wise the same, tire size the same probably, the damn brake dust that drives ya mad the same, the exhaust the same. The design of the car the same until LCI pops up.

I wonder though if these new bhp figures are going to be spot on when tested on a dyno or lower or higher then what it states. Cause the 235i develops more then what papers said if i am not mistaken when i read this a long while ago.

Remember there will always be a newer better car then the one you own, So its like when you drive on the Highway no matter how many cars you pass there is always someone ahead of you.

Wow just when we thought the M2 was the bargain this bad boy comes out. So you mean we can get this without having to deal with the low allocations, and the $5k premium on top of MSRP of the M2? If you're in the market for a sports coupe next year, this is not a bad choice at all. I like this engine very much.

No fks given. Very happy to have an end-of-life matured N55. I think this engine is looked back as a fond classic. More than enough power. The car is already beyond my abilities.

Yeah 380 whp on pump with just JB4. It's going to be very quick. Are there any updates to the suspension?

This is why the Pure Stage 2 is becoming more compelling for me.

Yes, there will always be faster, but my N55 should put down reliable 485-500whp.

I really don't get why the name change?? These new models are getting to be crazy with their numbering. What's next 245? 250 and so on. It used to make sense when the last 2 numbers matched engine displacement but nowadays there is no rhyme or reason to BMW model designation. Based on tradition the M235 should have been M230. So who cares if the engines change and make more power. For now I like my M235 as the numbering has some feel of great BMWs of the past such as 535 or the 635!!
