228i M sport vs Sport with valencia orange?
So I think I want to place an order for a 228i but i'm not sure what to do. I REALLY like the way the m sport package looks but I really don't like any of the colors. I wouldn't mind the melbourne red but it isn't my first pick. I do however really like the valencia orange and wonder what everyone thinks of the sport package? I haven't seen many/any pictures of the 2 series with just the sport package and I'd love if anyone has some.

With sport you'll get different body shape up front, different steering wheel, and different rims. It sucks that they didn't allow the orange on the m-sport but that will be your tradeoff. Build both cars on bmwusa and compare the differences.

Yes thats what I was asking about if there were many pictures of the 228i sport body style around? Most pictures are of the m235i.
Also would the m performance steering wheel, the one with the led shift indicators be possible to fit into a 228i without the m sport package or does the package add something that the steering wheel needs to work properly? |

My personal opinion is that M-Sport is more important than color. Unless you are planning to heavily mod. Then it matters much less.

What happened to shadow line for the DLO on the 228i sport line? It appears to be matte silver or chrome, both in photos and on the configurator.
I'd choose M-sport for that alone. |

Thanks! I just can't decide. I really like the m235i but wish it came in orange and also don't know if i'd rather a more spartan m235i or a loaded 228i. Was leaning towards the 228i but then still can't get the msport with the right color.

Just so we're all on the same page, that's a Sport Line at the DC show, right?
I agree with you on Orange; and am tempted myself to just get a stripped VO 228i then mod it later with nicer/lighter rims (the M roadster is the only BMW in recent memory with rims that I'd leave on the car), get coilovers, etc. I'm not really sure why the marketing/manufacturing teams would choose to handcuff sales with these limited options. Hope that it's just limited to the 2 and does not start to migrate to the other models. |

Except for the shadow line trim. That is M-Sport only, and well worth it in my opinion. I can't stand chrome trim around the windows.

If thats a Sport line it is supposed to have the Anthricite headliner...and it does not. It shows a white headliner. The other 228, with the red seats and Sport line, shows white headliner.
Also that Sport line shows the M Sport brakes, but the configurator wont let us add them unless we go M Sport. Im a bit confused. (The window trim can easily be resolved with some vinyl heat tape. works great, durable and looks stock.) Last edited by captpn; 01-23-2014 at 10:19 AM.. |

As for the M sport brakes, you should be able to add them to 228i even without the M sport package (its what i can do on a 225d over here) so maybe that's a glitch in the us configurator...

According to the US configurator, can't do it without the M Package. Who knows if it's accurate or not yet, I guess time will tell... Though an AP or other aftermarket combo may make more sense for someone wanting bigger brakes w/o the forced upgrade. Could even get it painted in VO to match.
EDIT: while playing with the configurator, noticed that on the premium package, it makes note of a pic being for a Sport Line key. Do the differerent trim levels really have/need different keys? That's pretty ridiculous, I'd have to say. What's next, we have to make our own gas mixture for each trim level? Last edited by tommy; 01-23-2014 at 12:50 PM..
