Launch Control 6mt

Wanted to start a new thread for people who aren't aware but there is a launch control system on the 6mt. Credit to Dylan86 for finding this.

Procedure:
-Put car in sport+
-Depress clutch and mash the gas (rpms will launch to 3500ish and hold)
-mild slip and release clutch and launch!

Works shockingly well! Have fun!

It works but I still find that I'm far more effective with modulating the throttle myself. With this launch control function, it forces you to basically floor it to hang the launch control rpm. When it's go time and you start to release the clutch, it becomes too much throttle and often results in excessive wheelspin.

Yeah, you need to be able to properly modulate both clutch and accel pedal for maximum traction and this "launch control" does not allow for that. It's cool that BMW included this feature, though.

True! It does need some finessing still but it is way better at putting the power down than I am with DSC off. I think it gets more effective the more power your putting down too. I tried with tune off and on and it seems to cope very well. This can certainly get addicting lol!

I've always launched on my own as I did know such an option was possible. Then again when I'm launching my car I normally have DSC off since I'm autocrossing when I launch.

This is pretty cool to have though!

Okay this whole discovery started on my 1/4 mile thread, and now I feel as if everyone is trolling lol. I tried this in my 2017 m240i and do not see this happening. Am i missing something?? I put the car in sport + while in first gear, depress the clutch and mash gas, and the revs quickly go to redline. What am I missing?

Are you on a flat surface and not rolling?

Is the motor fully warmed?

Maybe they got rid of it because it's not overly effective

You know what, that might be the only thing I had not considered, I dont think I was at full operating temperature when I tried it. Will go try it in an hour and update. However, I don't see how it can be too effective as the DSC still on creates massive cuts of power to keep the wheels from spinning, especially with the JB4 on.

That's weird. I wonder if they changed something in the coding since yours has rev match feature....have you tried all different modes?

I too have a 17' M240i and was unable to get launch control to work. It just redlines the car

The 3 Series cars have this too, fwiw. Only when purchased along with the "M Power Kit". Confirmed with a friends '16 335i RWD/MT this passed weekend.

After trying the 3 Series (with an open differential) you can easily tell the amount of wheel spin between Sport+ and DSC off, on a stock car. It almost gives you a false sense of how "powerful" the car is, imo, it just shreds the tires in a ridiculous fashion. He had crappy Conti's, but still, it was bad! And with the open diff, you get a lot more ABS intervention (in Sport+) and varying wheel speeds, so one side spins more or less than the other, never at the same speed. So for that reason, I'd use DSC "off" for most uses, launching included.

I am going to experiment with Boost By Gear via JB4 and see if I can get a better launch with DSC off, and will try the same with the LC feature. Stay tuned!

I thought maybe it was a part of it, but a few users, here, have reported this feature with a standard m235i build, like "XutvJet".. Strange, hey?

Yep, I don't have an LSD and the launch control function works in my 2016 M235. Sounds like the M240 doesn't have it.

I guess the trade off is rev match vs launch control. Curious about the m3/m4 now.
