The MPPK airbox can be had anywhere BMW parts are sold. I like ECS Tuning:

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/11122334344/

Here's the realoem.com info about the part number:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=11122334344

The difference is a big hole cut in the front of the airbox.

I often hear a whistling sound upon acceleration.. All my prior cars were NA so I just assumed this sound was the turbo spooling up, but I'm no Mr. Goodwrench. My intake and such are stock.

Right from BMW. They'll have it next day typically. There were 3 left in the country when I ordered it.

Thank you. I know it probably won't make much difference, but sometimes sounding like you're going faster is better than pushing the motor harder with mods to go faster.

I have our Sport Cat and Muffler Bypass installed on my car and from the outside you could hear some turbo spool. This past weekend I installed my intake and that really opened up the sound!

Does this make a noticeable sound difference? Any feedback from fellow forum users? I have searched and not found much...

I do, but you have to press the throttle a little bit (like 2700 rpm or something?)
that, and have the windows down.
I like that the cabin is quiet for DD

hm.. I've been mostly driving in eco pro, occasionally jumping to sport+ in the lights. Wow.. the difference & I think I can hear the turbo... but then again I'm not paying much attention to that when my face is smiling from ear to ear.

My first true engine product install EVER(give me some credit). I had no idea where to begin and just went at it. I removed the drop in filter out first. I pulled off from the center rubber adapter and it come right up and then pull up on the airbox itself and it came up. At this time I had enough room to pull the airbox right out. Then went backwards and its in. NO CEL!!!!!!!

There's a slight difference in comfort mode and sport mode with sounds of forced induction, but not comparable To other "true" CAI intakes I've heard. The problem really is the wind noise with windows rolled down and the stock exhaust noise are still overpowering in most driving situations. When I found an opportunity with less traffic noise and wind noise the drop in filter plus mppk box really prevailed. The diverted valve is more prominent of an increase in sound vs the spooling up of the turbo with this box. I was hoping for more spooling.

With windows rolled up and radio on, there is no difference. You can not hear the difference in car.

FYI I asked BMW how much to install and they said .5 hours for 75$. Happy I saved my money!

Hope this helps!

Sorry to bump an old thread, but is there a measurable difference in any way?

To answer the OP's original question - when the car was completely stock I could hardly ever hear the turbo whistle. I did the MPPK airbox and now I can hear the turbo if the music is low and a really get on it. It's pretty subtle, but that's fine with me.

Installed a BMS intake and you can hear all sorts of spooling noises, along with some chirps and whooshes from the DV. I’d do it just for the sound alone, was totally worth it.

I've got one and also have the MPE. Even with the top down I haven't noticed any difference over the stock air box, the only thing I hear is the exhaust, no turbo spool or intake noises. If it's there it's covered up by the exhaust sounds.

I believe it's simply the enclosed design of the factory air box. As "inefficient" as it may be to run a "filter-on-a-stick" setup, it always gives you the best sound on a turbo car. They can add a couple of ponies, but wouldn't expect anyone to be able to "feel" the difference in power with any inlet pipe mod..

I can hear turbo spool from the inside of the car, windows up. With windows down I rarely have the music on because the sound is so intoxicating. I'm sure it helps having a catless DP, etc..

The tune makes a huge difference. With tweaked boost settings I can hear the merry whistle of the turbo at almost any level of throttle input that is the slightest bit insistent.
