Leather opinions

Hey guys I'm wondering about everyone's opinion on what color leather is better. I have decided to go with the oyster white and black leather interior or the Dakota full black leather interior. I have never had leather in a car and was wondering what everyones opinion on if the white and black is too much upkeep or if the white leather becomes discolored over time. Personally I am leaning towards the white and black. Fyi the car will be AW with the CF bits on the outside

Black leather is definitely going to be alot easier to clean and keep clean.. White interior will get very dirty quickly, have to be careful wearing new blue jeans and certain pants because the dye can bleed into the leather and stain it.. Ultimately its a preference thing, I prefer red interior for its sportyness and wow factor for passengers but thats all subjective.

Ok good to know. I haven't seen the red in person yet. All the dealer has is tan, black, or the oyster

I have oyster and it's much more of a light tan than white. I don't wear jeans that often, but with some leather shield applied when new and every few months, I have zero color transfer issues. I wipe the seats down with a leather wipe from those plastic tub dispensers every few weeks. OTOH, Coral Red leather looks fantastic, but it would not have worked with my Valencia Orange exterior!

I'm not a fan of black....confining-looking/seems smaller inside, gets hotter in summer, and looks a bit downscale to me....

Suggest that you take a hard look at Coral Red to compliment your Alpine White exterior. Very sporty.

Having owned both red and black leather interior cars, black being the easiest to maintain and red is an interior that is best matched with a complimenting exterior color (e.g., red/red, black/red, white/red, gray/red).

I haven't had any issues with the Oyster. I use a conditioner every few weeks and keep an eye on it, but regardless, no problems keeping it clean. Compared to black, I personally thought it looked classier.

Everyone has black. Very boring. Jeans will NOT stain oyster seat. They will leave blue dye that is easily cleaned. My last one was Coral Red and next will be oyster. No more black for me.

I don't have my car yet but I ordered it with Oyster interior. I'm looking forward to a change from my current black interior. I'm a fanatic about keeping my car clean so I don't mind any extra maintenance that I may face because of the light color.

Auto leather is sealed so it won't stain and it makes conditioners useless as well as they can't be absorbed. Smells nice though.

Absolutely. If I were to go with a white car, the interior would red for sure. My son has a Z4 with that combination and it's spectacular.

Light interior is more prone to staining, I run a family owned dry cleaning business and have had people with light interiors come to me asking if anything can be done to take the stains out of their seats. I'm not saying everything will stain it but you have to be extra careful. I had someone come to me with a brand new BMW a few years back and his fiance had just gotten her hair dyed and the dye from her hair rubbed off onto the headrest of the seat and stained the seat terribly.

I know, but with my previous car the "conditioner" was easier to work with than the actual cleaner and gave the same result so I have kept on with it in the product line. It basically cleans - tomato, tamato.

As a woman who "may or may not" have hair that "may or may not" be at a point that "may or may not" require color that "may or may not" be what I was born with, I haven't personally had this issue with the "leather" in this particular car. You have to take into consideration the quality and processing of the leather as well. When it's been treated and coated with various chemicals, well... it's kind of like hair

Haha well played

Absolutely just have to be careful, I am super careful with any interior especially my coral red.. Constantly worried about the bolsters wearing on the driver seat and I keep a portable bottle of interior cleaner in the trunk just incase!

To the OP, I've had the Oyster 2.5 years now. It will NOT stain with blue jeans. Yes, the blue jean dye will come off on it. But trust me, it comes right off with just about any cleaner. This stuff is so plasticized, it's simple to keep it clean. OTOH, Coral Red looks fantastic with AW, and I'd go for that combo.

Add both seats if you have passengers along. That would be the most concerning and not really the stain. But on the other hand, its' only a car. Practice TLC, drive and enjoy it.

Black is too common and boring these days.

I went the Coral Red. My wife hates it, but I love it and that's all that matters.

I have an oyster interior (vs 10 years of black in my 330ci) and love the bright look!

We have Oyster leather in our 2013 X3. I was initially concerned we might stain them (and we both wear blue jeans a lot). They've had coffee spilled on them and some jeans will transfer color, but everything so far has wiped off with a damp cloth; we haven't even had to use a cleaning product.

We just ordered a 228i convertible with Oyster leather, too, since we like it so much in our X3. I've had black interiors in almost all my previous cars; I like both aesthetically but the light interior is so much cooler when the car has been sitting in the sun.

I would go for red over oyster any day. White and black just seems boring.

I almost got AW and was gonna match it with Terra...there's at least one YouTube vid that shows off the combo. Personally think it's a great combo. The Terra is sporty with the AW but not too flashy. I like the CR also but it was a little too bright red when I saw it in person. At the end of the day, it's just what your personal taste is though...go with your gut and don't second guess.
