3- 4.5 depending on my mood. I'd love to learn how to drive track, but I don't want to risk my new car!

Nice! I floundered around for about 5 years doing 2 a year, then about 6 years ago decided I needed to make time for what I loved to do, and for a whole year, I did two weekends a month and went from a low intermediate level to an instructor with NASA.

I race an e36 M3 with Rocky Mountain NASA, but I absolutely had to take my 228 to the track too. With 1300 miles on the odometer I was flogging the 228 around High Plains Raceway - full throttle. I was really impressed with the handling and the power; awesome car.

What kind of driver are you ?
1 - Track regularly
2 - Track once in a while
3 - No track, daily driver with a lead foot and who enjoys good performance and likes to race off of red lights
4 - Daily driver who enjoys a balance of comfort + luxury + performance and doesn't give a shit about racing
5 - Daily driver who's just proud of the BMW badge and doesn't care about performance

Surely, there is some overlap among the different types. So choose more than one if necessary

Thanks !

Other than the track day, I'm sort of a wuss on the street. I usually set the cruise control at 5 mph over the limit on the highway, so cars are passing me left and right (and usually glaring at me like I am a moron when they pass).

But I will do my share of WOT runs on entrance ramps, look for the apex on exit ramps, occasionally shift hard into 2nd gear on full acceleration to get the rear end fish tailing, or sometimes get a little throttle oversteer going on a low speed 2nd gear 90 degree turn.

So I'm a 4 most of the time, with the occasional wild streak.

This is pretty much the same for me. A couple track weekends a year, but I'm pretty tame on the street and don't drag race at all. I do the off ramp/on ramp thing whenever I can and hit the country roads pretty hard on occasion. I keep the cruise at just under 10 over the limit.

^ this pretty much. 2-3 weekends of hpde per year and leave it on the track. In fact, people hooning in the neighborhood piss me off. Maybe I'm getting old.

Good question.

I'm what you call in the showbiz world as a "classy a-hole". I love speed when it can be applied and I have a few cars that can do it. The M235i is a decent track car but an even better great daily driver. I personally like it because at any time with the push of a button you can save some gas (eco) or blow the doors off that teenage kid with the Honda tuner (sport plus). That's just me.

The moment my M235i is broken in, I will be at the track or an autocross. I ordered a 6MT with M performance LSD and no hole in the roof.

Recommend starting with BMW CCA car control clinics and autocross events. Safe environment, trained instructors, and will give you a better feel for the vehicle capabilities (and improve your own). After a one or two of those, you will want to head onto HPDEs, its in the BMW DNA

me too, but with a 370z racecar. In October, I had a friend drive my 2 to Atlanta Motorsports Park so I could take it out for 1 session. Felt much more better than a stock 370z, but brake fluid heated up after 3 laps. This could be an awesome track car if I didn't have the gutted 370.

You're right, sorry dude. I'm new to the site and haven't done proper polls before.

I will tally up the results soon and post them.

Ok y'all, some stats:

56 samples/data points
Average score: 2.85
Lowest score: 1 (quite a few track instructors !)
Highest score: 5 (one "poser")

So, the average 2er driver's driving can be described as "No track, daily driver with a lead foot and who enjoys good performance and likes to race off of red lights"

Wish I'd done a proper poll, but ...

3.2 for me. I just can't resist a mountain road with hairpin bends (at least when there are no Dutch and Belgian caravans driving on it)
