I understand debadging a 4 banger, but why would you want to debadge an M235i?

the debadged cars look sweet, I would definitely consider it. Makes the rear look symmetric.
The only cosmetic thing that bugs me is M-stripes on the front grilles. I don't feel as strongly about debadging. |

Because a lot of people debadge cars to hide that they bought a cheaper version. That has largely been my experience with people who i know have done it at least.
Tough for the uninitiated to tell the difference between a 228i Msport and m235i without the badge. Thus increasing the perceived prestige of their car. Right or wrong is up to you. I personally think debadging is just as silly as adding extra M's that shouldn't be there. I think most people who say they are looking for a "cleaner" look are lying to themselves about their reasoning. Then again lots of people do ridiculous visual modifications to their cars tat I don't agree with so what do I know. Its your car do what you want. I would definitely not go on an internet forum to have people make the decision for me. |

Well to debadge or not doesn't really matters its all a matter of taste tbh. But my dealer told me though most of us here knows the difference between an M2 and an M235i so for us it doesn't matter but for the average and i quote my dealer now
"The Average BMW buyer doesn't know the difference between an real M and M Performance or M Sport he/she just sees the M and think its a super sports car for a bargain price" And this is not coming from me, But it motivated me to keep the badges on because he said that . "M Badged car sells faster then a non M badged car whether it be an real M or not." So between us the people who actually are interested in BMW for more then the driving A to B location. We know the difference between these type of cars in the BMW range. So again i think its down to personal taste. I Also think a debaged car looks better then with badges i was close to debaging mine but talked to the dealer . And he recommended me to keep it on. Now this might be a unique phenomenon in my town only but for sakes reason i am going to live with the "not so pretty badges" if it might give me just a slight % increase when selling the car later on. So that is what motivates me to keep my badges on even though i think it looks cleaner without them heck its even easier to clean the car without those badges acting like a bump on the car whenever you cleaning and grime & dirt gets stuck in the letters. So hopefully this discussion will end up being an discussion regarding personal taste and not that "People debaged there cars to fool others so they think its an real M car" i hardly believe people are debaging for that reason. Then there is those expectations like the guy who debaged so it said M2 that was kinda funny. So don't start a flame war that people are ashamed because they bought a "cheaper" car because this freaking car is not cheap. Think about it. In Swedish money its almost half a million i paid around 480 000:- Swedish that's almost half a million. And in Euro its what like €48,000:- So it is not a cheap car for its class. To be honest. Have a great day and enjoy your car whether it be debaged or not. |

Same as above . I like the clean look I threw my $$ on options to keep me satisfied. All up to the owner But if I do resell it the badge will come right back on

I think its funny that people turned defensive about my post, though I 100% expected that reaction. I think it proves my point to be honest. This isn't just a BMW phenomenon either. The number of Pony mustangs on the streets with GT, and 5.0 badges on them is hilarious ( I have even seen some V6 mustangs done up as fake shelby's). There are even commonly available exhaust kits to add a non functioning second pipe to models that didn't come with dual exhaust. |
