You are wrong, there is no confirmation, there were just words thrown without any specifics and last that I heard the BMW executive was confused and was talking about M135i time not 1M, that also explains why in that same news 1M was described as having 18 inch wheels/tires.

As a matter of fact, there are no official "BMW" Ring lap times for 1M too; during pre-production they clocked 8.12 but that was not considered as a final number and only one was from Sport Auto magazine when they did the Super Test and it was 8.14.9 or 8.15 shortly. So, what matters is what Sport Auto will clock with this car on the Ring and Hockenheim. When we see the Super Test for this car we can make meaningful comparisons between the two with regard to performance.

I expect it to be similar to M135i but if more performance accessories installed on the test car it can really be threatening the 1M territory or on certain tracks bettering 1M times as well. After all, unlike 1M it will come with Michelin Pilot Super Sports fitted standard and that is enough to extract best from any car vs. older PS2s.

It will no doubt perform well. What remains to be seen is how it will feel
Roger that! Hey man I like the 1M also. Just can't see paying the premium for one

Looks like what I have in the garage now.

And, I can't get past the hood line being over the emblem, just too fugly.

That's keeping from the M4 also. It's hard to spend $80K for a car and see that every day.

Wait did I miss something? Are you saying the M4 will be 80 grand or the M235i? I may be in the wrong thread haha

Exactly. Get ... over ... it. Everyone claiming BMW is getting away from their roots, look at the history of these earlier models, they are going back to their roots.

An ///M#(series) is still different than an ///M###(i|d) car. People should be concerned with how the cars drive, not what marketing badge is on the car.

I don't care if it's the 235i or M235i or 235is. It looks like it could be a great car. I'm not basing my decision to purchase this car because they left an ///M prefix off of it and now I'm like,"Well, now it's not cool/unique, so I won't buy it."

+1. And the whole thing about "oh my car is more unique" is total BS. Who gives a crap. Unless you are going to put no miles on it and sell it at an auction in 20 years, who cares? At the end of the day, these were all mass produced cars. This is almost as silly as the whole debate about the 4/M4 badge.

That's going to be a very interesting proposition too. Very lightweight.

Can you imagine a 228i with Msport, MT and maybe xenons? No nonsense car which would cost mid 30's.

I'm just very excited about the 2er in general. Someone is going to leak pics before Friday for sure. Can't wait.

IMO I'm not judging this car by these photos on anything. Theyre all quick "hope i don't get caught" with bad angle pics. Ill save my true judgment for in person.

But I do think the M235 will look great.

I agree--but the reveal Friday should give us a MUCH better idea of the overall package, specifically the rear...which until yesterday had been the most mysterious part of the car.

Do you really believe that someone who wanted to photograph the back end of the car couldn't have taken at least one pic that presented a full on view (even from an oblique angle) of the rear of the car? It doesn't seem odd to you that there is an interior shot that's reasonably clear and yet not one from the driver's vantage point?

That, with BMW representatives plainly standing at the door. Did James Bond take these pics with his belt buckle hidden cam?

For now, that's my take too.

Lol you're too much with your conspiracy theory stuff. There was only a hired worker outside of the tent on day one, sticker-ing cell phones. Once this was pointed out, at the end of day one the guard was placed inside the tent. The tent was too small to get full, un-cropped photos-no expert marketing ploy behind it, just the mistake of having the guard outside the tent for the first part of the day.

BMW's only mistake was believing in their own client advisors enough to respect the rules in exchange for the privelage of seeing the car ahead of the entire world. Now horrible distorted photos have leaked, and judgement has been made based on those shots, jeopardizing millions of dollars worth of marketing money slated for the next year.

I'm sure you've heard the expression "there's only one chance to make a first impression".

My main argument with that is the fact that the 1/2 camo pics with the car in red have been out for months which showed the car at some goofy angles as well. Grainy photos, no pic of the rear end, etc...These 007 pics are no worse than that, at least in my opinion.

I also don't think the average consumer is on a site like this. As a result, the average person will only know this car exists when BMW starts laying it on thick with TV/Internet advertising. You can look at the commercials for the intro of the 4 series as a guide, yes? While the introduction of the 4 series might have garnered a lot convo and might have been sacrilege to the BMW faithful on forums like this, the average person doesn't know or give a shit.

As a result, I believe it to be pretty far fetched that three grainy photos could have a real detrimental impact on the sales of the 2 series.

And if someone is that stupid, to dismiss a car based on obviously less than perfect angles and picture quality, then oh well to that...

I don't know a single person that has ever bought a car based on 3 pictures in an internet forum. Perhaps this is the new trend?

If BMW is really that paranoid, they should hire some NSA regulars to do strip searches and pat-downs prior to entering the sacred little tent. Just sayin...

It's not just this site, it made front page news on dozens of blogs across the world.

Obviously NSA style security is needed, although due to the massive amount of leaks coming from BMW client advisors that are shown early versions of upcoming models, I believe these types of early sneak peaks will stop.

I would argue that people discussing the model via, to use your words, front page news on dozens of blogs across the world, is actually a good thing. People talking about a product is inherently good for the sales of that product, yes? Certainly better than C&D or another rag saying that the car blows, right?

Perhaps then those same people do a google search and see that there's no official pics out yet...you can't build one on BMW's website...and......they decide that they will come BACK at some point to see the finished product.

I'm just not buying that this type of activity is negative in any way...creates discussion and skepticism amongst those of us who truly care about this model and want to get one...but for the casual person who wants an entry-level BMW, I still don't think they would give a shit.

What am I missing...I thought this car was supposed to compete with the CLA and A3? Other then the FWD aspect so far the CLA is blowing this out of the park on paper, size and style. Seeing the CLA on the road impressed me and I'm not a MB fan at all. Its much bigger and wider then my e90 and the performance numbers and MPG is very impressive. This is with the normal none AMG version. I will have to wait for the 2 Series GC to see if BMW is serious to compete with its rivals in this category.

That said I don't know if I can bring myself to buying a 40k FWD car. I would have to test drive it for sure.

Months ago, I knew I'd be considering the CLA45 AMG, M235i, and S3 sedan.

I never really like the CLA rear but wanted to wait until i saw it in person to make a judgment, because I really like the numbers and attempt at aggressive styling. After seeing it in person, the droopy rear, odd proportions, and weird interior bits (seats are awesome but that tom tom GPS is terrible) were too much for me. I just found the car to be unattractive.

That leaves the M235i (which I'm leaning towards) and the S3 sedan. I think the S3 has the edge in exterior looks, even though AM liking what I'm seeing so far from the M235i, but the BMW wins in every other category for me pretty much.

In both cases that sounds like a good news to me.
If this is the same feature as before, then it is nothing new, and somewhat of a misnomer. That feature actually describes the behavior of the intelligent charging system. The alternator is only engaged at certain times to save on fuel consumption. When the car is braking, the unneeded engine (kinetic)energy is (changed to electrical energy and) used to charge the battery.

This is not the same feature that exists on an electric vehicle.
