Why are so many new 2-Series owners selling their new cars?
I'm seeing many 228i's and M235i's with less 6,000 miles being offered for sale just months after ownership. I'm also seeing many 2-Series owners wanting out of their leases just a few months after ownership. I've seen a few 2-Series for sale by owners with less than 2,000 miles. Check out the 2-Series that are for sale or lease take over on this site under member classifieds and check out autotrader.
What's going on? Why are so many people wanting out of their 2-Series? What gives

Since I ordered my M235i in Mid December 2014 The dealer has had two pre owned M235i's with under 10k miles fully loaded automatics on the lot.

Checked member classifieds. Interesting that there was only 1 228 but a bunch of 235s. Maybe folks getting in over their heads on the payments ??

Fickle owners. Nothing new. Think women and shoes, men and cars. Ive done this. Not really news. Human nature for the most part. Pick a reason.

why does the op think this is out of the ordinary in any way? Or more problematic for 2 series?

I have to go with the fickle owners comment . You have it , love it at first , get over it and want something better .
Also knowing an m2 is on its way will probably drop demand for a 235i so they want out now since it's only around the corner . |

Shoot, I saw this happen with a friend who bought a new Nissan Leaf. Two months later, he was ready to trade it in on something else. He simply was not happy with the car.
I'd bet this happens with just about any brand and any model. Folks can be impulsive - then regret it later. Does not automatically mean something is wrong with the car - they probably just picked the wrong car for them.

I've only had car buyers remorse once. Do you guys remeber the Toyota MR2 Spyder. I was very excited to get this car. I placed a deposit before the car was even released by Toyota. I was the the first person in Texas to receive an MR2 Spyder when they first came out.
As I was driving home I found myself thinking "what the hell have I done? I don't like this car" The car was entirely to small and underpowered. I sold the car 2 weeks later. Fortunately since the car was new to the market plus it was Silver with Red interior(rare at that time). I was able to sell the car for exactly what I paid for it including tax, title and license. I've driven several 228i's plus I've driven a 228i M-Sport on track. I was I impressed with the 228i's I've driven. I've only driven an M235i once for a total of 5 minutes. It was a casual 5 minute drive down a freeway service road at no more than 45 MPH. I believe the M235i will be a perfect fit. I plan on keeping this one for at least 2 years. Will sell it before it reaches 25K miles. I don't keep cars long. I usually sell my cars when they reach between 10-14K miles. Keeping the M235i for 2 years is a long time for me.

I'm skeptical of the premise here.
I just checked cars.com, and I see 30 used, low-mileage M235s for the whole U.S.A. Nothing extraordinary about that at all, in my opinion. I checked the 435i, and there are 116 used, low-mileage coupes. And there are 153 used, low-mileage 2014/2015 335i sedans. Just because someone is selling something doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with it. People sell nice cars for all the same reasons that reasons that they sell nice houses: can't make the payments, need the money, divorce, moving, need something bigger, want something different, etc. etc |

This is where I'm at. I lived in NYC for 14 years so I couldn't satisfy my driving desires. Now with 13k miles, I'm ready to move on even as good a car it is. Thing is I haven't driven a M3 since the E36. I'm honestly afraid to bc I think I'll fall in love and do something irresponsible.

How many 2xx's have been sold - 9000? It does appear that there are a few more than anticipated for sale.
My question: why is a 2014 235 with 7000 miles have an asking price of $46.5? More than a few of the used cars appear to have an asking price closer to MSRP? |

Exactly. I'm following used 235s on autotrader and bunch of dealers are asking thousand below msrp on a 2014 with 5-10k miles. Onky a clown would pay thats price.

I think that the scarse options to find a Brand new 2 series of your choice sitting in your local dealer make the pre-owned market of these cars atractive, even selling for a close amount of what we paid for them.
So If I was offered what I paid for it, I would take it and wait a couple months for a new one with similar price. People don´t like to wait, I don´t mind as It is my second car. |

Prior to ordering my new 2015 M235i I visited a couple local Houston BMW dealers and made buy offers on two different "certified" 2014 M235i's. One had 3,500 miles, the other one had 6,000 miles. Both dealers were selling the pre-owned cars for $1,000 and $1,500 off MSRP of a brand new one.
I assume for people who must have their car right then it's a good deal. I ordered a brand new 2015 M235i for less than I would've paid for a "certified" pre-owned 2014 M235i.
