Adaptive LED headlights
Currently have a 2015 M235i which I've been very happy with. Planning on getting a 2018 M240i within the next couple of months. I find the headlights on the M235i to be a bit weak. Was wondering if anyone got the M240i with the adaptive LED headlights and what they thought of them.

I can't speak to your question specifically, but I find my m235i headlights to be pretty darn good. NTHSA and others have tested the new LED headlights on lots of cars and they aren't nearly as good as the Xenon HID headlights found on the m235i.

not sure how long you've had it, but after my first night time driving 3 years ago I noticed my headlights we're aimed extremely low. brought then up and they're decent. would agree, nothing to write home about.also, nothing yo complain.imo

If they are anything like audi's LED lights then it should be night and day. The LED lights on our 2017 A4 are phenomenal. They make the xenon lights on my 240 look like shit.

I just took delivery of my 2018 m240i w/ base (non-adaptive) LED headlights and am completely blown away at how bright they are and how good visibility is. I was originally considering retrofitting the adaptive LEDs at some point, but besides it being cost prohibitive to retrofit, I just don't think it's worth the trouble with how great the base LEDs are. That being said, if you are going to be adding the Premium Package to your car either way, then the extra $800 for the adaptive lights is probably worth it IMHO. I personally did not want the Premium Package on my RWD stripper build, so I did not even have the option to spend the $800 for the lights. I'm still a bit salty about that move by BMW since I did want the lights, but maybe there are technical reasons i.e. the additional electronics from the Premium Pkg might be required to support the adaptive light function.

1.5 to 2 turns on the Xenon headlight adjusters gives a light throw on dipped beam at least double the default distance, without being high enough to dazzle oncoming drivers. As others have said, takes the lights from meh to very good.

I got a m6 gc with adaptive LED lights and a m235 with xenon adaptive lights. Although xenon on m235 are more than adequate, but when I switch between cars I see a world of difference.
Go for LED if you afford it, but you will be ok with xenon too. |

I could really recommend the adaptive LED light. Especially the function that the long distance light is acive on the right and left side, even if a car is directly in front of you. Most tme you make even more light with this function than the car have in front of you by its own.

I have an M235i vert with the HIDs. My wife got a brand new M240i (also vert) as a loaner this week. (Never expected _that_). It has the adaptive LEDs.
The low beams on the M240i are definitely aimed higher than on my car. With the sharp vertical cutoff, I can see the flash when the cutoff crosses reflective items way down the street--much further away than in mine. The difference between low and high beams is not as pronounced, which is likely also due to the apparent higher aim point. I'm not sure how different things would be if I raised the aim point on the M235i. Edit: There's also a clear purple fringe at the edge of the light field in with the LEDs. I think it's kind of cool but my wife doesn't care for it. |

Yes to the little aura at the fringe. I thought long and hard about getting them on my 2018 and I'm glad now that I did. However, I don't think that it's a make or break thing.

I have the adaptive xenons on my 228. I have kept them on for the entirety of ownership. In the last 3000 miles, I'm at 68,000+ miles now, I have gotten an error message and they freeze. "Adaptive Headlight Malfunction" is the message. It happened again last night. It seems that the right side/passengers light got stuck facing to the right.
Turning the car off and starting it resets the BIT upon start up and then it's working again. It seems that it happens when turning while at a quick pace. So if you are driving spiritedly maybe turn them off to the non-adaptive setting.
