MW vs. AW
OK I know this debate has been going on ever since BMW introduced MW to the market a few years back. And yes apparently there is yet a third white, BW... but I think the MW vs. AW debate deserves some attention for the M235i.
Here are some of the old clichés: AW is whiter; more manly (since it has no pearliness); costs $800 CAD less; a true white (looks the same in all lighting conditions); and is easier to match/fill paint chips. MW is less "milky" but still looks white (shows minute creases in the car better); has more depth to it (touch of pearliness, very slight platinum/silver hue, looks different in different lighting conditions); is shinier; and rich men pay the extra $800 CAD and go for it. This poll seeks your opinions on which colour looks best on the M235i. As always, feel free to add your comments too. This poll is not meant to select/discuss other colours, but rather if you had to pick either AW or MW for the M235i, which would it be. Last edited by Cosa Nostra; 02-24-2014 at 03:48 PM.. |

AW all the way (of the two). Not a fan of MW at all.

Here's my 2 cents worth to add fuel to the fire...
I don't think MW is a girly colour - that's silly IMHO. A friend pointed out that in pics of the M235i in AW vs. MW the former (AW) tends to blur the lines/creases in sunlight (making the car look one-dimensional) whereas the latter (MW) tends to show-off the cars lines/creases much better in sunlight (making the car look more two-dimensional if you will). Its funny, at first glance AW seems brighter, and yet it is really only whiter, and MW is shinnier due to the metallic paint. At first I always thought AW hands-down. However, my bro-in-law pointed out that AW looks like someone painted a white picket fence and has no depth to it. There both great colours - real tough call? - hence the poll. Appreciate comments too. |

As I mentioned earlier, if MW looks as good as Satin White Pearl does on the BRZ it will be a knockout, SWP is subtle and very rich looking. (I have yet to see MW IRL, it was not at the auto show). I find AW and its equivalents to look a bit low-end, more suited to Civics and Elantras. There are a few cars to which it is well suited and even iconic - eg the classic Civic Type R.

I just love the contrast of Alpine. I think when you go white you are really looking for that pop that it has to it. essentially the contrast all the way up. I just find it to be beautiful. My 135 was Alpine with the matte black CSLs (see sig.) and I got endless compliments. Very noticeable car. Mineral can look good. I feel like it is a color that lexus wears well. Bmws in AW i just love.

I like the mw over aw. Both are nice, but to me the mineral white looks classier. Makes the car pop more. I agree it shows the lines of the 2 series better.
Going from AW 135 M Sport vert to MW 228 M Sport. Don't really care if people think MW is girly. I think it's good to get opinions on why people like different colors for X model, but at the end each should just go with the color they like best. I respect that some think AW looks better then MW. To each their own. |

You can't really go wrong with either of the whites.
However, I have a MW loaner 1-series (4-door hatch version) today while my 3 is getting warranty work done. This is my first experience with any type of metallic white. I think it looks very good on the 1-series and makes the car look more upscale. But now I am not so sure if it will look good on the 2-series. It might make the car look too elegant? It is a great color and the flake looks great in the sun, but I can see why many people prefer AW on the 2. Last edited by darcivic00si; 02-27-2014 at 01:44 AM.. |

I said this somewhere else, but...
When I think mineral white, I think of an old lady driving a Lexus. When I think Alpine white, I think Porsche GT3.

I generally like MW a lot, but I think on this car, its more about getting down to business. Therefore AW.
