I've "heard"... that a M235i is slightly faster above 210kph(or 135 mph) than a M2. But just by a "tad". Now... I'd still take the M2, because it's ALL about the TOTAL PACKAGE to me. I really want a M2!!

BMW is in a bit of a predicament, bc they can't put a S55 into the M2 bc it would just kill M3/M4 sales. So we have what we have.

Btw... I've also heard that the new M340i will just "walk" a tuned 135i(with 410 Hp) on the Autobahn - with ease. And that's in a big heavy F30!! The new B58 engine is waaay under rated.

Dackel
Sounds exciting. Really hope the M340i makes it to market this next generation, a diesel/hybrid version would be good too. As long as it comes in wagon /tourer form

Wow, well it looks like it's only a matter of time before we see the B58 in the M2?

Yes and no! It's a rendition of the engine's actual "sound",...a recording that is played back through the vehicle's audio system! It enhances what the cabin insulation deadens!

Wishful thinking
Don't think BMW M has ever released a new engine in their cars during a life cycle. Would devalue the others. Next gen m2 most certainly will have an engine based off of the b58 though!
E34 M5, E36 M3, E36/8 M Coupe had engine changes, it's normal.
@MThree_driver time to brush up on your old school BMWs

While the E36/8 Z3 with the S52 still enjoys major popularity, the 95 M3 did not lose any value compared to the 96+ models.

I do agree with you that they will develop the B58 further before it ends up in an M car. They also will sell every M2 they make because it's a better value overall and it's also a better car.

Those who want straight line speed can be happy because an m240 is momentarily faster due to gearing in a drag race...that way they can add more engine mods with the money they saved by not getting an M2

Replace stock wheels with lightweight wheels and you will see a big improvement in stopping power. A brake upgrade will resolve this issue as well.

The guy also seems to f up in this video a little and lose traction in 2nd gear, so it would be even faster without that screwup.

Video is proof you don't need AWD to have a good 1/4 mile car. With 255's in the back and an LSD I can only burn through first if I launch it hard, otherwise it just bites, squats and takes right off. Not what I was expecting, especially with all of the past debates about RWD vs AWD launching.
