M235i vs M340i

I had an m235i 2015, n55 engine. I loved the car, tons of fun to drive, was excited to start modifying it... then it got stolen. to replace the hole I was looking at an M340i with the b58 engine, 2020. It is a sedan, it is 300 lbs heavier but man was I disappointed with the test drive. Felt big and bulky and wasn't fun to drive. I know the b58 is a great engine but my 235 was wayyy faster than that 340. Im now looking further to get into a 240. Does anybody have similar feelings, or think I'm full sh*t? what's your opinion?

They’re completely different classes of car, why don’t you just get another M235i?

A 3 series is the size a 5 series used to be, and it weighs more. As far as I’m concerned, a modern 3 series is a 5 series the 2 is a 3 series.

I bought a 235 specifically for the reasons you mentioned. The 3 and 4 are too big and heavy. They’re not fun cars to drive. I own an E30, E36, E46, and E90 as well. The E46 was the best 3 series they ever made. The F22 is the closest modern variant to how a 3 should drive. And even the 2 is heavy and has a lot of body motion in comparison (stock for stock).

Sounds like you want to buy another M235 based on how I read your post. The F22 M240i would be a good option too. I love mine.

Got it. Yes, the B58 is an awesome motor, reliable, and easy to pull lots more power out of it. I'm not familiar with the N55 so don't know how they compare.

Hey I recently snagged a 2017 M240i in manual and I will be honest the car is a blast. Unless you want a sedan for extra space and people I highly suggest getting that b58 in a 2 series you will not regret it. The car feels super light and fun and with stock b58 it pulled great. Super easy to get to stage 2/2+ also as I am already S2 about to go S2+ after a month of ownership.

Mint, I'm excited to get the b58.

You won't regret it, I do recommend getting a full maintenance done on the car after you get it (I got a new battery, coolant and oil change, and overall inspection) before any mods. You never know what a previous owner did to a car in terms of maintenance but so far no issues only enjoyment from my m240i i got not too long ago.

Go with an M240i. The B58 is an absolute monster once you get sucked into the modding rabbit hole.

It's a ton of fun baiting Hellcat & Vette drivers and then crushing their egos.

Where do you live? I'm having a hard time finding any in western Canada

Would it be reasonable to just drop a b58 in a 235?

Have a 2016 M235 and 2018 X3 M40i with the B58. Very different platforms, but I can tell you the B58 is awesome and has tons of power. The X3 is almost 4,500 pounds and hauls ass!
