Protect rocker panels w/ M Performance Accent Stripes ?

Anyone install those? I mean you can get a clear film to protect rocker panels form chips, but I suppose you can install those stripes instead since they are only $150 bucks

That would work as a sacrificial piece that you can swap out once it looks ugly. The area right in front of the rear wheel would get missed, and that takes a lot of the hits, in my experience.

Yeah I'm strongly considering them for that reason as well as my car now has quite a nice combination of Estoril Blue with a bunch of carbon fiber bits and the m performance front splitter. Thinking get the gloss black double slat m2 style grills with the side blades and the vinyl to finish off the visual modifications on the exterior for a long time.

Not sure how effective they are for stone chip protection, but mine are still going strong and they complete the "M performance" look if that's what you want. For me, they came with the car from the factory, so I left them on

I had them installed about 4 or 5 months ago. They do tend to get really dirty, but theýve held up very well so far even after cleaning. I did it for the looks, but the protection is a nice benefit I suppose.

I'll post a picture in a bit of how they look in their really, really dirty state so you can see for yourself.

How easy are they to install? Just pull 3M tape and stick them on?

Personally, I would recommend you to have a shop take care of it. I believe you have to cut it and you only get one chance to get it right.

It's pretty much like this across the entire rocker panel. They get dirty, but there's not a single bit that has a dent in it or is otherwise damaged. So I suppose it offers decent protection for anything underneath it.

(Yes, I will be hand washing the car soon again, when the weather permits )

I have them on EBII and they look very sporty. I had a professional installer put them on. It took about 30 minutes a side. They are precut but lining them up isn't as easy as one thinks.

They are precut for the M-Sport aero kit. Not sure what they would look like on a sport or luxury model.

Mine were installed prior to delivery. I'm really happy with them. I waxed them (polymer sealant, actually) and 18 months later they look as perfect as new. The rocker blades were a more recent addition and I think they go together nicely.

Thanks. I have mineral gray m235i so I suppose it will fit and look decent maybe, or not enough contrast between stripes and paint..... I would have to think about it....

As long as the car is not black you should be fine. And to be honest it doesn't look to bad on black either, but there is a clear difference in color.

Did you have to get the rocker blades painted or did they come in that satin black like the front splitter does?

I can answer your question. They're unpainted. They're the same as the front M-performance lip / rear M-performance diffuser.

As long as it matches the front splitter I'd be fine with the color.

Man, what's with BMW owners and having everyone else do the work for them

I've watched an install video of a couple guys installing the lower rocker panel. It looked simple enough.

1) They marked off the general lines of where they wanted the vinyl to be.

2) Sprayed the body panel with soapy water.

3) Removed the vinyl from the sticker backing and placed it on the soapy panel.

4) They easily moved the vinyl around into the position they wanted.

5) Then started working out any bubbles.

I think the key here is having two people getting the vinyl on the panel and perhaps one standing back to make sure it looks even. I've taken the measurements for vinyl placement off an M235 at my local dealership.
