Does a resonator delete drone?

Hello 2er's,

Question for the guys/gals that have done a resonator delete. Does it drone?

I have a MPE and want to add a little more umph in the sound department, but I cannot stand drone.

Thoughts?

I saw that, but he has a muffler delete as well, which I know drones. So I'm curious if anyone has done it with a stock exhaust or MPE.

I also searched the threads and couldn't find anything

Ah sorry misread that other post. Too bad you're not in PA my exhaust is stock and Thompson is having a C&C next weekend. I have all options lined up to listen to. MPE, MPE + Resonator Delete, etc.

I have the MPE and res-delete and I don't notice a drone. Cold start is pretty loud/aggressive, but settles down after a few mins. No regrets, I love it.

The resonator on the 235 is really small. It doesn't make much of a difference when u delete it

Did you go with Dinan? Is it worth the $250?

I have deleted both resonators on my car and the sound is amazing. I get 0 drones in my cabin and with the windows up + comfort mode, it sounds the same as stock.

Here is a video I made:

Edit: awe crap I didn't notice this was the M235i sub forum... could someone delete this I'm sorry!!

Yes and honestly no if you have a reputable muffler shop you trust.

The one nice thing about the Dinan option especially if you have it done at a Dinan BMW dealer is no one is ever going to hassle you for any sort of aftermarket parts warranty bullshit, but for a piece of pipe the risk is low. It's like $400 installed.

No question. All my dinan bits were done at my dealer. I only suggested a local muffler shop because some are discouraged by the price.

It's the best. Matt, my Dinan guy at Thompson is great but also importantly provides me a single throat to choke.

J Pipes remove drone. Use the helmholtz equation to figure out length that is required to reduce or remove drone. I'm using custom J Pipes on mine with custom magnaflo mufflers and I have 0 drone

+1. Very little difference on the MPE. I had mine done at a muffler shop for much less than the Dinan. My car is a cabrio and Dinan said it wouldn't fit so no choice.

This is true. I had mine done at a local muffler shop. No sense in paying that much for a strait pipe that says dinan on it

As stated before, the resonator is so small that the sound differences are so marginal. Yes, it will be a little louder but you'll have to listen for it. I wouldn't worry about drone.

So deleting the resonator doesn’t really do much if you’ve got the MPE? I’m wanting a bit more burbles during overrun, is there a way to do this? Seems like I hear it more when I’m in comfort more than sport, but revving in sport there is definitely more burbles.

I did MPE with a resonator delete, and compared to my friend who did MPE only, I honestly can't tell a difference. No drone at all though.

So, you are saying no need for resonator delete?
