Don't be worried, its just a clutch inspection opening. The plastic plug is loose and cant believe mine has stayed in this long. There is no seal. Just buy another and pop it in no worries.

Well my concern is that I am hearing a faint, but abnormal nose and it comes directly from that hole. If mine had been open for 20 k miles it's possible that water, salt and debris could have gotten in.

Seems like a part of the car that I would not want grit or corrosive materials getting in.

I see. I do know that it must not be a huge issue with salt and moisture because its no where near sealed. Its just got clips that retains it and it is loose. My clutch chatters a good bit while easing into reverse and 1st. Not sure if this is what your referring to. I hope everything is ok and please report back. If and when you take it in for service

Will do. I have the 8speed. I need to get oil change and brake fluid done soon so I'll have them check it out. Also I have a video snake. Maybe I'll pop it in there for shits to see what I can see.

An open hole in a gearbox that has a plastic snap in clip. Seems ridiculously asinine to expose the gearbox to the elements in this manner...

I'm no mechanic but it's not a gearbox but a bell-housing and they purposely don't make it enclosed for cooling and noise/vibration as well as inspection. Think of it as more like a half-shaft that has sealed joints on both ends. A dry clutch on a motorcycle can be exposed - admittedly a bit different and also similar in many ways for cooling and getting rid of dust.

Got my cap on order. The dealership did not say there were any issues. I did not get to speak with the mechanic though.
